There are lots of mounting options that can produce good interesting videos. Location is important and influences perspective. Keeping a bit of the bike in the frame will make video appear steadier too.
Key is to have fun and blend several view angles together for greater viewer interest.

Here are a couple of attempts I e tried.

Jim,

Those are outstanding. I love that Cascade Highway -- that's going on a list of roads I need to ride if I get up to Washington.  I also like the FJTV logo!  ;D

Now, aside from the kick-a$$ riding, how do you get vibrant colors like this (are there tricks to the setting used or do you just go as high res as you can?):

Here are a couple of rides in Orange County NY. One is the famous Goat trail and the other is going down Bear Mountain. This is using a Go Pro.

There is another option that hasn't been mentioned and that's the Contour.  It's simple to operate, and mount on pretty much any surface.  I have mine mounted on the turn signal stalks using a 1/4" U bolt.

A common problem with the cameras and something to consider heavily is the sound.  All of them have terrible wind issues.  The Contour is one of the worst - the biggest weakness in my opinion.  There are ways of correcting it though - I wrap the camera body in a sock for instance.

Yeah that sound issue seem to be common theme, and from what I gather an enclosure helps.

I don't have a video hosting site, or I could share the stuff I get from my Contour.  Considering how old the camera is - it's really not that bad.

I am I wrong to think this type of cam should be had for less than $100 and produce good results?  $300 to $400 seem high.  I bet your 1st Gen countour is the same as their current top of line.

I always hated the profile of the go pro.  like having a lego brick attached to an itty-bitty perch attached to your head (or whereever)

It seemed silly to me that an action cam would have a "traditional" (for lack of a better word) camera shape.  being a broad-sided rectangle.  Which they've sense done away with.  In favor of a square  :o

There are two cameras I know of that offer Ultra-hi-def resolutions and aren't gopro.  Midland has their XTC cameras.  which in my opinion, make a better design by placing the lens on the SMALL side of their elongated brick design.

Then there is the Contour cam.  a cylinder with the lens on the end.

Smaller profile, smaller target, smaller drag coefficient.

My personal fave for both XTC and contour cams are the goggle strap mounts.  I took some good snowboarding footage with my XTC fixed firmly to the side of my face.  Looked like some sort of KGB spy with the tech gadget hanging there but it's better than being the dude trying to focus on holding a brick on a stick while sliding down the slope!

Brick on a stick you crack me up.

If I could find a cheap enough cylinder one I thought about attaching it to a styrofoam glider with some clear fishing line for a "hillbilly drone".  I could pull it behind me like a kite for areail shots.

As much as I love my GoPro, I think I will be trying the Contour when I decide to get a new one. Smaller forward profile for the side of the helmet. Unless the GoPro Session comes down in price, of course.

Far too many users of gopro's (myself included) is you think you're going to be James Cameron as soon as you open the box. I personally find the video footage I get riding to be fairly useless 90 percent of the time, but get some great photos using different mounts and the time lapse feature.

The handlebar mount has been my favorite to use.

How much to decent video that is not so shaky?  What causes the shake.  Does higher end stuff have image stabilization, or a way to cancel the vibrations?

I think you could eliminate some of the shake with a helmet mount. maybe a little?

This is where go-pro outdoes its competition. I've also found that go-pro branded mounts are FAR superior to the cheaper off brand ones, which comes into the vibration issue as well.

Here's the latest video I shot with my GoPro, and edited with their studio software.

The kids stopped me when I was getting groceries at the market, and wanted me to put them on youtube.

Go pro has the option of one remote for multiple cameras which might be useful.

Wonder if other vendors like contour offers the same option.

The shots look way cool tracking around the bike.  Much better looking than what looks like a scuba regulator attached to the chin of the helmet.
