A nos pipe came up on David Silver Spares the other month and I ordered it up right away, 2 weeks later I hadn't heard anything so I emailed them to see the status. They got back to me dating they were waiting for shipment from their supplier. Another week went by and I got an email, the pipe was listed by mistake, their supplier didn't have one.  :'(

Maybe it's just the angle of the photos, but is the decal a little off? It seems to be sitting a tad low on the tank.

 Not that I know of, but then again, I don't have anything to compare it to. It's nice and even and looks great in person. Nothing jumped out at me about it's placement.

Is it possible those are actually NOS pipes?  If not, they can eat a bag o' dicks.  Pricing like that is just stupid for the hobby.  They basically pricing average Joes out of contention and leaving it to the much smaller % of riders willing and able to pony up that kind of dough.  If they are in fact making them new they could drop them to to $1000 and make WAY more money than they are going to at $2.6k.

They are not an easy thing to reproduce.  The pipes are not simple and it is probably the reflection of the price of the last few pipes Honda had as well as recoup the expenses they incurred to develop the dies for the exhaust mufflers. They might not expect to sell many copies and have enough business with other exhausts to not be hurt by not selling a lot of exhausts.
Add to this the expense of chrome work in many countries is very high, compared to the US. Even the US has seen major increases in chrome plating and regulations and disposal regulations are driving platers out of business.

So, yes it is outrageous.  If they don't sell at that price they will either go out of business or lower the price to a more reasonable price,  to a point. They won't produce more if they aren't sold.
So, complain to DSS the price is too high and indicate what high price is more palatable.

If the exhaust has to go through TUV and EPA testing then those costs are very high and factor into the price. .. another thing to consider.

 Remember that commercial, "How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop"? Well, in this case, it should be "How many times do I have to R&R these carbs to get it right?".

 I had the carbs off at least four times, and that's after 78Whiteorbs had been through them a couple of times AND my carb guy had done them once.
 Everyone says "re-use the brass....it doesn't wear out and is better than aftermarket". Generally, that's true. But in this particular case, it caused a lot of headaches. The pilots were corroded, the mains appear to have been drilled (on a bone stock bike....why??), and the needles simply didn't fit the emulsion tubes correctly anymore. Maybe the needles and tubes had lost their "mate" somewhere along the way and had gotten mixed up? A couple of them showed damage from screwdrivers and there was some corrosion on the bowl ends of a couple.

 Much of this wasn't readily apparent to the naked eye without magnification. And I've rebuilt and re-used some really cruddy carbs before. But....for whatever reason....these just wouldn't work. I chased a rich condition for a long time before finally ordering new needle sets, main jets and getting some known good pilots from Harisuluv.

 That seems to have cured it. I have over 60 miles on it since replacing the brass and it runs better than it ever has. No more bogging or loading up, fouling plugs, etc. It pulls cleanly from any speed in any gear now.

 One slide had scratches on it that I could feel with my fingernail. There's a matching one on the other side. I replaced it with one from my parts carbs.
