CLUTCH CABLE NOT RETRACTING?
« on: September 03, 2015, 04:00:20 PM »
I'm sure this is an easily resolvable issue but I'm just not sure what I'm missing here. So I did the adjustment using the screw and bolt on the case to align the marks on the lever and case. With no cable there is enough tension for the spring in the case to make the lever want to retract  when i lift it. However when I put the cable end back into the case lever when I pull the hand lever the cable doesn't return. No amount of fiddling with the adjuster nut on both ends of the cable seem to solve this. Any recommendations.

Image 2: lever with handle fully pulled
Image 3: lever with handle at rest
Image 4: note adjuster nut in background is completely lowered in this example

I assume we are talking about a CB500.  I do not see your images.

Sorry for posting images separately. I'm doing it from my phone and kept getting errors when I tried all 4 simultaneously.

Ill try to explain in english, not my first language  :o

The starting point before the clutch engages should be were you can no longer move the lower lever by hand...in your pictures it looks to be completly lose, thats why its not pulling back.  So adjust the lower part first, with the small lever all the way up.

Something like this image is where you should set it before pulling the hand lever.

From what you're describing I'm not sure if I "set" the adjuster correctly on the clutch case. I basically loosened the nut and while gently pressing the lever up turned the screw until the marks on the lever and case met. Then I retightened the nut. Is this incorrect?

You should not be able to engage the clutch just by hand, its too hard.  You need the cable and the hand lever to be able to move it.
Move the small lever at the case all the way up with your finger, and thats about where you should set it with out pressing the hand lever.

So the marks should be aligned while the lever is at rest (no actuation on handle)?
