I'm looking to glue the left oem rubber grip onto my chrome handlebars & my little tube of Hondaline grip cement is too old and hardened up. I want it to stay on there w/o sliding around
Who's tried something else and found it to work good ?

ok honda_dog,
I was hoping to find a product(I tried contact cement but it didn't hold)around here where I live possibly in a local Wally store, etc. There isn't a decent M/C shop any closer than around 13 miles from here(Bentley's is very high $ and there real close..  ::))and I just want to glue this thing on there w/o having to travel out of town.
I heard one guy tell me 'hair spray' in an aerosol can..?

I bought some Honda grip glue a few years back and it didn't work. I've heard of using hairspray but never tried it. I used spray paint but you have to rough up the chrome on the bars and let it sit overnight.

ThreeBond Grip lock worked fine on my last set of grips.

I use hair spray, works great.

Is it an old worn out grip? If yes, wont work.

Stev-o,
The grip is nos oem Honda and from what I can gather so far it probably would be best for me to just order some special grip glue from a dealer online,I saw some 'Scott grip stick' on ebay for around $5.
I've always used the Honda grip glue and it worked great, I guess this stuff should be just as good.I'd like that it dries real fast and does the job.

Yep, Stev-O is right.  Hairspray works well. It keeps the grip from rotating or coming off, but when you shove some compressed air between the grip and bar, it releases for removal.

I know this doesn't answer your question - but what the heck I'll offer it up...

When I swapped out my old foam grips for original factory grips, I didn't use any adhesive at all.  They slid on firmly, and haven't so much as budged.

I used lacquer thinner and steel wool to remove the old glue and rust that was forming, but that's all I did.

I didn't even use grip glue when I installed those grips that Steve-O raves about on my CB750.  They are excellent grips by the way - can't remember the brand, but the gist here is that I haven't had to use glue.

+1, have never used grip glue of any kind with good condition bars/throttle sleeve and new grips, have had no problems with slippage...ones that a previous owner glued always end up slipping

The hair spray works as a lube to easily get the grip on, then when dry, holds the grip tight too.

This thread reminded me to look up my favorite old grips and I found them. I didn't know the name of them. They're old school grips called Anderson jack hammer grips. We used to just call them donkey dicks. Very comfortable and not too mushy like the ones I'm running now.

+1 for hairspray. Go find the stickiest kind you can (they're all usually labeled for how much hold they have).

I found lots of them on Ebay...some with free shipping. I also noticed some were Emgo's. I would shy away from those.

I've used hairspray in the past once and it worked well;I'll just prep the bars well and  use the Scott glue this time.
Larry,I enjoy the Italian made Gran turismo grips myself, reminds me a little of the vintage Triumphs.

I have short little stubby hands-the Gran Turismo are too fat for me but they sure were popular back in "the day"...Larry

A friend of mine uses a quick squirt of lacquer from an aerosol.

When it's wet it allows the grip to slide on easily but when it dries it holds the grip firmly in place.

after reading this, I am thinking about golf club grip tape.
I recently re-sized a set of clubs, shortened, for my wife.
When I took the new grips off the new clubs, they had a 2 sided glue grip tape.
Probably could buy the double sided glue tape at any major golf store.
I gently, applied compressed air to the grip (with a blow gun) to remove and install the grips.

Yes,
Someone else mentioned the double sided golf grip tape to me;will it be possible to slide the new grips on if compressed air is not used ? I have one bike that has internal switch wire and know they won't hold any pressure. How thick is that tape & do you wrap it circularly around the club/bars or long ways ?

Ideally you would wrap it long ways around the handlebars, and no, a new grip wouldn't go on with just compressed air. When using golf tape you would take some soapy water, spray both the double sided tape on the handlebars AND the inside of the new grip, let the excess drip out, and slide the new grip on. It also takes a little while to cure, ideally 24 hours. I've done this many times to golf clubs.
