MoMo, how many businesses are NOT selling products from China. After Walmart and others forced manufacturing abroad it has gutted America's capabilities in many ways and high tech isn't the answer to everything and the profit driven bean counters and greedy management are to blame.

Witnessed firsthand the offshore software development move and the use of offshore software partners.
The inept development by TaTa software group in India as well as worked with various engineers from other countries. Most were bright. Those who were sent from India @ Tata didn't have any where near the technical expertise needed because most weren't there long after graduating and they didn't have the creativity of us and european development personnel I have worked with.  They would staff with 2-3 staff for one of our Bell Labs developers. Those who were capable lead the others who were very junior.
We had many very talented bell labs developers who were from all over the place.  So, it wasn't a case of stereo type Indianddevelopment being bad, as I worked with many who were very intelligent and talented.

^^^^ HA!

I have seen AOL move operation to Bangalore and back again  ;D

Funny thing,  Indian engineers in USA were the first to trash their colleagues in Bangalore, but my experience was there are some good and some bad.

I had many coworkers at Bell Labs who were Indian and very bright and innovative.  As a general rule the Tata group we experienced had numerous small teams with a leader for each of these pods of software engineers. They were throwing 3-4 of Tata software people for each Bell Labs engineer they were trying to replace and the BL engineer would be laid off after training them to do their job. The lead would be capable but many if mot most of the subordinates weren't as capable.  They would express that often they would gain experience and thrn leave and go somewhere else for more money.
It was ugly business.
The project I last worked on is the voice messaging system with all its capabilities that Verizon and AT&T cell phone uses. At the time (2001-2003) it was cutting edge and Verizon only gives basic services with upselling the other services/capabilities.

When Czech government issued the second GSM license, I was hired by T-Mobile in Prague and we worked on the roll out.  Fun times  ;D

But the voice mail system we used was from Comverse and I was involved in that too, wonder if that company still exist, they were pretty much the top in 90ties, at least in Europe.

Lots of people could fix the real system if those in charge would cough up some bucks.  Most corporations suck(guess I should be in the pissed off thread, huh?)

Yep, we have all that stuff, especially wallboards covered with propaganda telling how they take care of their own.  I just got a success sharing check for the whooping grand total of $52.  Red Star replaced by orange everywhere you look.  All full time people replaced by part time, on and on...Larry

Hey Larry.....they upgraded the HVAC system at my local orange store too!
And nice new tile recently too. I dont think OSHA would like that ext cord so close to a wet area, especially since the hand dryer shoots water downward!

Guess the hvac ventilation upgrade is becoming a corporate standard. I'm surprised they used a purple fan rather than orange and they are missing the required air freshener, which of course would be orange citrus scented. Thanks for posting Steve...Larry
