Topic: Chinese Piston Rings

Starting a new thread as my question is buried in my other post about my head.

Does anyone have any good/ bad experience with cheap generic piston rings?  They're about $50/$60 a set of four vs $40 for one genuine Honda set.

A friend of mine had a complete engine overhaul and the rings didn't seat properly and he blames it on the cheap rings he bought.

Who did your friend buy them from.  If they were purchased from cruzinimage, they are Japanese.

Those instructions, followed by any and or everyone would cure pretty much every economical, mechanical, mental problem, and the results are immediate. And if USA manufactures are buying CCC to make their products, don't buy from them either. This saving all the money that can be saved, has a serious worldwide side effect of lower standards. Swedish steel and some Japanese Motorcycle models are examples of High Standards of value, buy that even if it's more money. I don't have anything against China, I don't know if they produce anything of quality, I know "we" are nearly destroyed from buying CCC.

There are truly excellent tools and parts made in China. Unfortunately most of the world's counterfeit stuff is also made in China and they don't mind counterfeiting their own good brands along with Japanese European and USA stuff. Buying a quality brand from a trusted supplier is your best bet, it is unfortunately common to get poor quality Chinese counterfeit parts pretending to be any brand and just about any type of tool or part from ebay or shady dealers (flea markets are really bad). I have seen fake NGK sparkplugs, fake FAG bearings, fake Honda car parts, fake American car OEM and premium brand aftermarket brake parts, all sorts of things I didn't think worth faking. A counterfeit $10,000.00 purse doesn't really hurt anything except some idiot's bank account (yes, I'm defining as an idiot anyone who would pay $10,000.00 for a purse... and also anyone who would pay $1000.00 for one that "fell off a truck") but fake brake parts, fake pharmaceuticals, and fake aircraft parts can kill people.

China is coming around, the days of "Every village will make steel to catch with the evil West" are over.   I buy machining Shars machining tools and they are very good quality.

Got it!  Thanks.  There's a guy on E-Bay who sells four sets of rings for $60 but they're in little sealed plastic bags with no brand name on them.  As long as I buy from a reputable company sounds like I'm safe.  Suppose the best bet is to get OEM but they're very expensive.

Get the set from ebay seller CruizinImage, they're Japanese and actually decent quality. I'm at 1000 miles on those rings and no trouble so far.

Just looked at Cruzinimage e-bay store for rings for '77-'78 cb 750. The e-bay source (location) is listed as "Chiba" or "Japan". Not real confidence inspiring.

What a load of horse#$%*. China manufactures countless things as well or better than anyone else in the world. Is there #$%* mixed in? Undoubtedly. Is there #$%* manufactured and peddled by American and European companies? Undoubtedly. The simple concept that drives their economic ascendance that you fail to understand is "labor arbitrage". It has been going on for centuries, and it will likely go on for centuries to come. Look elsewhere for reasons why you feel we are "nearly destroyed". Nothing in the USA is close to "destroyed" except maybe the tenor of the political dialog. Your problems, whatever they may be, are first world problems, and you should count your blessings.

I have MC Cycle rings for CB750 (one piece oil ring) that I bought from the USA. How do these compare with Cruzinimage ones in quality? I know that CI ones are 3 piece oil control rings.
seem to remember Hondaman said the MC Cycle ones were OK quality (sorry if I am wrong on that Hondaman as I bought them a few years back.

lol. you're right, it's just failed observation on my part. China's Made In China goods deserve far more credit. It must have a been a bad dream, or nightmare, thinking of just what I've seen flood the U.S. market place as being produced extremely cheap quality...Thanks Noble Hopps, for a minute there I thought my experiences might of been a reality, I could of gotten way out of hand. I only know of one thing they produce well, is the illusion that eating rhino horns, shark fins or blue fin tuna makes them taller, or mightier? And it matters none to them if it's the last horn on earth, they need it. Oh yea, and they produce awesome bad air. Piston rings? lol, I'd buy them only if they know you're a friend of mine.
