Late '70's Chevy Caprice..the most under rated car in history! I had a '78 Caprice Estate wagon...Small block 305...got it up to 95 once! No matter what went wrong with it, it cost 75 bucks! Plaid cloth seats, fake wood on the side...MMMM! MMMM! MMM! What a car!

Kghost,if you go back to page 4 you will notice that Cheapo checked  the "RPM input" on that speedo.

Thank you

I did not kill off any posts  ???

Ok just out of curiousity..........

When you say "RPM input" what exactly are you talking about?

yes they do...that was my point.

So you checked the Wheel gear?

Or did you do something internally to yours?

For the last time.................

The speedo was calibrated to be accurate.
The wheel "gear" was checked to make sure it was a STOCK speedo drive
The speedo cable was lubed properly

Listen tom I am asking you a question not to doubt your claims or discredit them.

I would honestly like to know for future projects how you "Calibrated" the 750 speed.

If all the wheel dries are the same....there must be an internal difference in the speedo.

A circle is 360 degrees. Now...If two gauges are marked thru lets say 300 degrees of thier circum. and one reads 110 and the other reads 150. Obviously there is an internal gearing difference.

If not and the internal gearing is the same.....

There has to be a difference in the wheel gear.

Curious what that is......

Well I tell you what tom since you don't know I'll tear some gauges apart and figure it out.

Was going to do it anyways when I get to building gauges for the frankenbike, Guess I may as well do it sooner rather than later.

I had hoped you had a definative answer as to what the difference is..you know save some work and time.

Thanks for your help.

While drifting through the snow storms of the NorthEast, usa.

155mph on my old 1999 gsxr1100, but not pegged. >:(

I just really don't think a car that heavy could get that kind of speed with a 305.  Especially if it had all the emissions equipment that was becoming so popular at the time ('78)  Was your speedo calibrated?  Did you get a radar or GPS reading?  Where you going down hill?  Was the sun shining and birds singing?  Did you happen to fart just before checking the speedo?   ;D ;D ;D ;) ;)

We've done it a few times in our previous ambulance.  The first time I *know* of was when I had an iffy trauma patient in back from a highway accident, we're on the interstate heading into town, and I lean into the cab and ask my partner "how fast are we going?".  She points to the pegged speedo and says "dunno, it stopped there".   ::)

After that, I figured better off not knowing.

Hey Tom, wanna drag?  But we get to use lights and sirens.   ;D

An Ambulance chasing me might give the wrong image to the public.  ;) :D ;D I am sure my lawyer would be right behind you.  :D I think it honestly it topped out at about 155- 165MPH  ::) ?

Let's note the part in red:  AC (Cheapo) was guessing, if you'll note the "flavor" of the statement and the question mark at the end and the word "ABOUT".
I caught a big fish the other day.  I think it was ABOUT 15-20LBS ?

I'm not trying to be Tom's cheerleader here, but I thought we could all throw 'guesses' as to our top speed, cock size, etc., in a lighthearted way, without having to show written notarized proof every time.

1984 Olds Toronado.  Approximately 3500 to 4000 pound car.  Front wheel drive.  Speedo only marked to 85MPH.  Original engine whereabouts unknown.  Engine that was in the car: '71 Olds 350-4 barrel, stock spec engine.  Buried the speedo needle on I-85, near Lawrenceville, GA.  Car kept gaining speed, had to, because the Mustang that started the whole thing just kept getting smaller in my rear-view. ;D

Dunno actual speed, won't even venture a guess, but let's just say that the old boat floated :o

Yes, he said "about 155-165", and I'm the first one who called BS. But "about" anything means "close" to that. Plus he gave a range, so maybe he was thinking 160 and said 155-165 to be around that. At the time I called BS, I didn't think the actual top speed of Home Wrecker could be anywhere close to that speed. I still don't. I'm sure it's quick, fast, whatever, but 165mph is seriously fast, and my ~105rwhp 98 Superhawk with much better aero than a 30 year old brick couldn't even read that on the speedometer. The question for proof came when a claim made that sounded a bit more than a stretch of the truth. That's all. If he had said 130-135, well that would've been much more believable, as well as mighty impressive.

I really didn't want to start a big fight about all this, although the good natured ribbing I've been reading has been fun. But by reading another post I learned that Tom obviously has some more important stuff to deal with right now so maybe his mood is a bit lower than it would be under normal circumstances.

Well I rode my BMW K1100LT 200 miles to my parents place yesterday (I'm typing this on my Mom's Mac) and was thinking of stuff like this. Now at 120 KPH (about 75 Mph, I'm guessing) my engine is doing 4500 RPM in 5th gear. Redline starts around 9000 RPM, so in theory, my bike will do about 150 Mph by the time I  get to redline on the tach.

I've no idea what kinda BHP it's producing, but I'm guessing it's around 100, which is not all that much for an engine of this capacity, but for a naturally aspirated 550, I'd say it's damn near impossible, when Mike Rieck's "Million Dollar CB750" with just about every performance accessory money can buy (not to mention hundreds of hours of his own talented performance mods) is "only" producing 98? (which is pretty bloody amazing since thats more than TWICE the RW BHP of a stock CB750)

Having said that, I think some folks here have been doing a shade more than just some "Good natured ribbing", and should take a step back. I'd like to think that we're all friends here, but some of the posts have been less than friendly, and not in the spirit of fellow motorcyclists enjoying each others company. If you don't agree with someone here, say so and move on, there's lots more to see here folks, so don't dwell on the negatives. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

I would have to say everyone here talks BS. DG, your claim about your turbo 900, that is BS to the Nth degree. You claim 100 hp or close to it yet say you will never have it on a dyno. Sorry but no ass is able to gauge hp.
You give Tom a hard time yet boast yourself. Please buddy, you cant talk.

Easy rule to follow people is that if you are going insult people on their claims, dont make any you cant back up either. ESPECIALLY if you are making the same type of claim the person you are bashing is.

Don't.

Why is it necessary to insult someone? Surely you can find a better way to question it.

Lucky anyone here, I don't really care what you claim. I don't have to nail you on it either. I never have. Why would things change now  ???
