Rust on exhaust - any tricks?
« on: September 15, 2015, 04:40:20 AM »
Hi guys

Discovered these patches of more-than-surface-rust... Does anyone have some tricks up their sleeves on how to remove them or at least keep it in check?

Blue Magic, or any chrome polish, and 0000 Steel wool.

Aluminum foil and coca cola. Pour on the coke and rub the foil on it.  The rust may be coming from the inside out which is common, so at some point a repair is in order.

I did use some chrome polish for the more superficial rust, and it did the job. The patches on the photo go a bit deeper and can't be romoved with the above.

I thought about a dremel with a soft-ish tip and then applying some heat-resistant paint... Good idea?

Worth a try, anything to seal it up and buy some time.

I just cleaned my bike, all the rust came off.
it was only about 2.5 years that it was let go, so the rust was not that bad.
I used vinegar, and also toilet bowel cleaner, & steal wool; learned about it here.

have to counter the acid or you'll re-rust quickly.

It worked great!   :D

Looks like surface rust from below that no one will see. Wouldn't give a care. Would be interested to see if you used a method that worked and posted a pic though, please.
