What a big week.

All my parts have arrived this week so I have now done everything I can to the bike whilst waiting for barrels to be hogged out so I can build the engine.

New switch blocks are on, new front brakes are in, custom short front fender is on, grips are on, all wiring is tucked into the headlamp, a new threaded swing arm grease nipple/zort is fitted, and the rolling bike is off the build stand and parked ready for the engine.

I noticed how much of a lean it has on the side stand, so I just picked up a 1982 CB900 side stand to fit to the bike.

Photos of the finished roller soon - and then it is time to move to "stage two" and design the top and bottom triples for the Ducati USD front forks conversion. I was lucky to get ten minutes of Rex's (of T-Rex racing developments) time this week and he explained how to come up with the right formula for triples that will improve the handling on a CB750. Well worth calling in to see him.

Got the CB900F side stand yesterday and fitted it today - big difference.





I finished all of the engine painting today too, everything is blacked out and ready for assembly as soon as I get my barrels back from being re-sleeved.

I wonder how that side stand will go with all the weight back in the bike, it looks like it's standing as a completed bike should now...?

Should have seen the lean on it with the 2" shorter stock CB750 side stand.

I am hoping this is better, not sure if engine weight would add to the lean or settle it down a little and decrease the lean. Anyway - I can always go back to the stock one if I have to.

It's leaning over further because of the extra long Koni shocks, by installing them, you've raised the frame an inch or so. The longer sidestand will do the job, or else put some shorter shockers on it. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I like the DOHC stand, less chance of sinking in softer ground..

Can somebody please tell me if there is any difference between a CB750K and CB750F1 front hub?

Or otherwise - how can I bolt a disc to each side of a CB750K hub and keep the speedo drive?

Long time between posts I know - but I only work on this bike when money permits and that ain't often.

But I did pick this tank up the other day.






I just bought it for the cool old 70's airbrushed art, but now I look under the tank I think it might be an early one.

Can someone tell me what model CB750 this tank is off by these photos?

rh side dual outlet petcock makes it k4 or earlier... those are not the wrinkles of wrinkle tank fame.  "Wrinkle tank" has em farther forward on the tunnel so that you will see the wrinkles looking into the tank with the cap open.  So all I can tell ya is late K0-k4

Yep, what Sean said Cliff, we didn't get K3 or K4 CB750's officially imported to Oz so it'll be late K0 to K2. Cheers, Terry. ;D

FINALLY!

After waiting fifteen weeks, six hours and twelve minutes - I got my barrels with new bored out sleeves back from the engineer.

This means I can now take all of the engine parts up to the engine builder and get the thing put together for my bike.

I am a bit over the whole "sitting on a rolling frame and making vroom vroom noises" bit. So I think I may actually have a bike on the road in around 8 weeks.

Okay - so five weeks in and the engine is almost ready. I needed to get one or two small parts (such as more bearing retainer clips) before the bottom end could restitched together, but now is getting there.

Just out of curiosity - what other carbs can go on a CB750 (well 836) without buying CR's? Is there a bank of Mikuni's that fit, or a set off another model bike that improves performance?

I'm using the same Carbs Terry had on his gold 750, 34mmCV's off a cbx750, they aren't an exact match but can be made to fit with a little persuasion, you'll still have to jet them to suit......

Mikuni RS34s fit but that's a lot of carb - meaning it's well suited for a higher performance motor.
