TEC shocks on ebay........NOW WITH PICS
« on: September 20, 2015, 11:57:49 AM »
looking at shocks for my 76 750F with the 81 900F swingarm.  found these on ebay....made by TEC.  anyone have any info on them?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/161803500185?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

have them mounted.  they hold up well, keep the rear end planted even in the rain.  damping is nice and smooth.  i would say they are roughly equal to the stock Showa shocks on the 81 900F that i had on Baby until they wore out and started leaking oil everywhere.  I have roughly 300 miles on these since i mounted them and have no complaints, single or 2 up, wet or dry weather.

No offense, but those look CHEAP.  When it comes to suspension, you do not have to buy Ohlins but you do need to spend some money to get a decent shock.  Avoid Chinese crap brands.  Avoid EMGO.  At the lower end, Hagons and Progressives are a decent bang for the buck.

They suck, are super primitive, undersprung unless you're #150 and under damped. They are original looking and shiny and cheap and will hold the rear of the bike up, which is how they ended up on the rear of the 400f I restored last year. :-)

I went with these from Vintage CB750. The K stock shocks are shorter than the Super Sport F models at 335 cm.

They were only $99 and they seem like pretty good quality. I can't advise about performance just yet, but I will when I get the build completed.

Here they are on my bike.

That was my thought as well. If it is the same company that makes the ignition parts that are such high quality why would they put out crap shocks?

I don't care where you buy them, you WON"T get a good working set of shocks for that price new, ever.   How many other ignition making companies sell their own branded shocks..? Just because they make good points doesn't mean they make good shocks, I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole. There are 5 things that have the ability to save your life on a bike apart from rider skill, Good brakes , good suspension, good helmet, good tires and good riding apparel, I never skimp on any of these things... ;)  My 2 cents   ;D

OEM for what bikes? As I understand it, these are better shocks than the RFY Chinese junk. These are made by the UK company and they supposedly own the plant (in China) that makes the parts they assemble here and in the UK.

I'm not convinced the "TEC" shocks have anything to do with the TEC (as in Tokyo Electric Co.) that we all know in regards to our OEM ignitions. The ebay seller is called tecbikeparts and according to his ebay store he's based out of the US and sells other items using his TEC logo. That doesn't change a thing as to whether the shocks are any good or not, I'm just saying we shouldn't jump to conclusions that TECbikeparts have anything to do with Tokyo Electric Co. Let us know how the shocks work out.

Some people skimp on the most important parts that affect their safety and well-being. I guess that's their choice to make. I'm with you on this Mick.
