I think the stock handlebar weights are missing. Should I replace?
« on: September 21, 2015, 09:22:45 AM »
I'm doing a lot of work on my 82 CB650SC. One small thing was removing the garbage grips some PO installed that were falling apart and replacing with the original Honda grips. After removing the old grips and taking a look at the fiche for my bike, I'm realizing that I think the whole handlebar weight setup is missing. I'm not sure if they had to be removed for these non-Honda grips to be installed.

My question: When installing the new original Honda grips, is there a solid reason to get a new set of handlebar weights? I don't think I noticed a lot of vibration when the bike was running well. So do I have a good reason to spend the extra $?

The purpose of weights is to reduce vibration at high speeds. If you didn't notice a lot of vibration before then I wouldn't worry about them. They're more of a personal preference in my opinion.

Also, I'm gonna shamelessly throw this out there: I've got a bunch of 82 650 nighthawk parts taking up room in my shed if you need anything   ;D ;D

It's a little motor and likes having the tits revved off it.

Well then. You and I may suddenly be best friends. Do you happen to have a pair of rust/pit-free fork tubes? Cause mine are cratered like the moon

If i recall, they aren't in too bad of shape. I'll check the shed when I get home this evening and shoot you some pictures.

Lost internet here at home so I'll have to shoot you the pics later (doing this from my phone), but i checked my forks out and they don't have a single pit in the tubes. Only a small bit of surface rust where the bottom of the headlight ear would be.

Edit: Got my internet back! Pics attached.
