« on: September 22, 2015, 02:27:15 AM »
Will a later style clutch basket  ('76-'78K models) work on a '72 CB750?

I use the entire clutch from a 77 k in my k5. The later basket fits, and takes an additional friction plate (among other differences). So yes it will work (i think) as long as you have the other required later model clutch parts installed, including the newer clutch outer cover for clearance with the new basket. Basket by itself, probably won't work.

I have bought a complete CB750 F2 clutch with the outer cover complete with clutch arm, spring etc to my K6.
They use same fiberplates (6 like the older + 1 outer with wider ears that match the later basket), but F2 has the newer deeper hub with the double riveted metalplate in the middle. The outer cover is different too for the bigger hub.

There are some threads were clutches are compared, here is one:

TY for the responses.

My plan was to use the entire clutch basket assembly + the newer style clutch cover.

It looks like the newer style one uses a circlip to retain the basket to the primary shaft, but the older K2 doesn't.  I understand I'll need to use the different backing washer, but will the later style of basket need to be retained by that circlip?

Eydugstr,

A few things to note on the clutch plates.
There are 2 styles of Friction (Cork) plates.
Square cut and Slant Cut.  The K6 I have uses 6 Square Cut plates and 1 Slant Cut plate as the top (Outermost) plate.
As I understand it, using all slant cut plates will cause more clutch slippage then using the 6 and 1.
Oh, and the part number apparently is the same for both square and slant cut, so ask before you buy.

Hope this helps,

Charlie

Mine seems ok, and i don't run the shaft that takes the clip. fwiw.
