cb750a uk market
« on: May 05, 2013, 10:21:13 PM »
i am running around on a 78 cb750a here in the uk .it shows as registered in 1978 as a new bike.the bike looks like a77 year model, spoke wheels.however everyone i speak to says they were never sold over here.were there any official uk honda sales or was it probably a special order import.the bike has the american market sticker on the headstock.thanks
just checked the decal on the headstock & it says 1976 year so either it was imported or was very old stoick

Welcome to the forum, not many of us over here own a matic, I'm near Manchester.
Are you Richard that posted on Facebook ? if so, please post a picture of your bike, it looks very nice. 8)
Some bikes that got into this country that were not UK imports came about By US service men bringing them in then selling them when they got moved on to another posting, it might be the case with your bike.

yes i am the lad from facebook.i have had the bike a while & only just started to use it .very impressed but seems very undergeared  ,ie very revvy at around 50 mph.i have had it upto over 90 so gearing is stock.i was going to put a smaller rear sprocket.would probably have to use low gear at low town speeds .at the moment i only use drive even in hilly areas.the main reason is to help fuel consumption as it seems a bit greedy getting low 20s mpg.

All Honda's are a bit revvy, it's a Honda thing  ;D ;D ;D but I know what you mean.
It won't hurt to gear it up and you can then use the gearbox like you would on a normal bike.
Start off in low gear and shift when you are ready, you don't even have to come off the gas (sorry, petrol) ;D
If you are doing any fast road work, beware of any heavy use of the rear brake, remember that when you come of the throttle you are effectively free wheeling and to much pressure on the rear brake will cause you to lock the rear wheel.
I'm not sure why you are concerned about the fuel economy, petrol is cheap enough over here. ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

Enjoy it, Sam. ;)

i am used to hondas its just i am getting a bit mechanically sympathetic & dont like wringing the neck out of it.my other bike is an old bsa so there is a bit of a rev variation.the bsa gets an easy 50mpg so petrol costs doubled getting to work.
i work in a bike shop so can try a couple of rear sprockets until i find a happy ratio.

I geared mine the opposite way, right down low, still does 93 in first gear though and you think yours REVS HIGH.

Hi just got my 750a live at Morecambe , I am sorting out the snag list few problems but pleased so far, like you thinking of gearing up read a few views some say go large on the front sproket some go small on the rear but would like to be able to cruise at 75-80 without it reving  it's nuts off. Let me know how it works out
