Hello. I have a small stable of bikes mostly from the Seventies. The bikes that fit this forum are a decent CB550 survivor and a DOHC 1979 CB750. The 750 is a runner and a good one, but the 550 was a hundred dollar barn find that goes well above its humble price tag. I have seven bikes from 100cc to 750cc and all are Honda. I am learning to paint to a fairly decent standard with help from a neighbor who restores cars. Bikes are a good place to start painting, because re-paints are fairly easy.
I am also helping a younger guy get started repairing his bike collection of about thirty 60's and 70's Hondas. I might show him how to clean an old twin 360 carb and he does not have to be shown twice.
I finally am getting a little more time on my hands and want to hear the 550 run. It had what I thought to be a nasty short and I finally found that the regulator was knackered and took out the main fuse every time it was hooked up. also, the PO had been in the handlebar switches and they were gone as well. Anyway, this looks like the place to be on the Fours with little drama and put downs to people who are trying to fix their bikes.
I also should mention the carbs. I thought I knew how to service them, but knowing about twin carbs does not make one an expert on the slide carbs on the 550. I did get a complete set minus the bowls at the All Ohio for the princely sum of 20.00 and that might be my back-up in case the original set is too difficult to finish. That's about all for now
