Hello everyone. I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice. Haven't found too much on this. Long story short, I was taking the clutch cover off to replace the gasket and as I pulled the cover off the kickstarter shaft came out with it. When I went to reinstall I noticed the rear journal was cracked pretty bad. As I was installing the shaft I must have tweaked it a bit much and it snapped off. After reassembling, the starter can still engage and turn the engine over but now it loses contact after a couple kicks. If I tilt the bike and allow the ratchet to slip down the pinion, it will engage almost every time, but with the bike upright, it seems the ratchet will push off just enough to lose contact. The k/s worked before taking the cover off so I'm assuming the top of the journal played a roll in constraining the rear clip (cmsnl calls it starter spring?) and providing the tight tolerance to allow the ratchet to engage. It's obvious that I have to either replace the whole case or just delete the kick starter, but would something like jb weld be enough to hold that rear journal? Any risk of the weld getting into the oil? It seems most of the load is supported by the clutch cover journal and it wouldn't require too much strength to keep it in place. I hope I made this understandable. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
