Nitrile gloves while riding..
« on: October 03, 2015, 07:58:49 PM »
Anyone try them blue gloves under their others,  as extra windproofing.?
Going on a 250 mile ride tomorrow,  leaving while it's probably around 40 degrees.
 Figure they may actually help.

I would use a glove liner then the nitrile glove. My hands sweat in them and that just destroys your ability to stay warm.
Have a good ride.

nitrile doesn't breathe. You hands will sweat and eventually your skin will go pruny, then creepy waxy, then necrotic
I recently restored and sold a 77 cb750f, and am nearly finished with a (former basket case) cb750k5.  This is a place to share, learn and enjoy.  I am grateful to and for 99+% of this site's membership.

[...] then necrotic

... and then you won't feel the cold in your hands any more, or any other pain. so eventually it works as desired, right?

I carry a half dozen in extra large and use them as emergency rain skins.
Everyone's impressed and grateful when I hand them out.

I normally wear an XL or 2XL GLOVE, so I haven't found any that were larger. I can sometimes work a pairover a lightweight mechanics glove but not over a pair of armored motorcycle gloves.

35 years ago, when my ex still liked me, she gave me pair of winter riding gloves.(best gift ever from her, except for the divorce)   I still use them and change to light weight gloves when it warms.  I have some electric gloves form Gerbing, but the old ones are what I use the most.
The nitrile gloves may be a good idea and fit under the seat.

40 deg?  You wimp.  I crack out my winter gloves when it dips below 30. ;D

As for the nitrile, I think your hands would prune up.  If only because you also have gloves over them and they would get much hotter than normal.  I also don't think they'd do much to cut wind, too thin for that.  My winter riding gloves are 2 part - leather outer and fleece liner.

Of course I find that electric grips are really the only good option in very cold - sub 20 weather.

Have you ever considered using them "Hot Hands" packets or something to act as pseudo-heated grips?

I found nitrile gloves did nothing for me, riding in below 10C with just my standard gloves.

Last week I bought a pair of winter riding gloves... leather/suede/GoreTex outside (plus armor) and fleece lined inside. Long cuff goes over jacket, etc...

BEST investment I've made so far this year. No more frozen fingers!

I would say they made quite a difference. I think it was around 5C when we left, and 1-1/4 hrs later it was around 11C . We rode the whole time.. And it was still pretty comfy.
I have my snowmobile mitts, but they are hard to ride in...not finger gloves...

Before I found my winter moto gloves for a good price, I was going to get a pair of lobster mitts.

I think the sweaty pruny camp did not read the part about trying it,  due to the 40 F temps in the morning... They helped.. No prunesweat..had them off by 11:30 it was warming up then.
