"winter" project
« on: October 04, 2015, 01:57:33 PM »
So I acquired a 1970 cb750. The engine is not stamped with a VIN. The frame VIN is CB750-1048055. According to what I could find online, the "sandcast" motors where not put in frames that "new". But according to the same website the "sandcast" motors had 10 screws in the clutch cover and the die cast motors had 11. So my question is what is up with no VIN on the motor, and is mine a "sandcast"?

Many early cases suffered damage from drive chain breaks, many replacement cases never got the VIN restamped, that is most likely what happened to yours.

Sorry, no sandcast there.

Drive train and internal chain failures tore up cases, and the dealers would replace them with non-stamped cases.

This Sandcast 750 intro contains several errors. I have requested that it be corrected or removed but it is still there.

Steve, you are correct. The Sandcasts have 9 holes in the clutch cover. I am going to call you tomorrow about 658.

alright i renamed the thread as I'll be asking more questions here and posting about this project.  ;)
well I rigged a soda blaster and went at my carbs this evening with pretty nice results I thought! But... in the process of removing the float pins in my carbs I managed to do the very thing I was dreading. i broke one of the float posts >:( >:( .. so I turned to ebay  ::) and found a "reposter"... anybody ever use something like this?
