Engine stand for top and bottom work

I got the stand for $20 on CL, it is one of those 750 pounds cheapos.    I adapted it with piece of 2x2 tubing to hold the CB750 engine from both ends.

But it never worked well, because the original stand is tilted.   It was impossible to rotate.

Rotisserie stands you can find on ebay have left and right side lined up, like this:

To solve this, I made two crude u-joints, one for each end.  BTW we call it cardan joint, because of some 16th century italian mathematician  ;D

Now it works perfectly, and in hind sight the solution is obvious but it took me a while to get it.   ;D

Hopefully it will save somebody some head scratching one day :)
