CB750 master cylinder upgrade - first ride
« on: October 31, 2006, 09:55:17 AM »
I just got back from my first ride after replacing the stock setup on my CB750 F1 (single front disc) with a Nissin 14mm remote master cylinder assembly and Goodrich braided line - I junked the pressure sensor for the brake light as the Nissin assembly has an integrated switch.  The improvement is amazing!  I find that the lever doesn't have quite enough travel, but I am willing to overlook that for how much the braking has improved.

Anyone who wants better braking and doesn't mind the non-stock appearance of a modern assembly should go for the upgrade - it's well worth it.

Details and pictures required.

Did you stick with the stock disc / caliper?

I will try and get some photos up soon.  The Nissin assembly looks great and doesn't seem too out of place on a vintage bike.  I stayed with the stock caliper and disc - someday I would like to resurface and drill the disc for better braking but it is good enough for now...

I have the same setup on my scoot - and it was a HUGE improvement over the stock master.
Pic of my setup is below...

Sounds like a good idea......where did you purchase it?

I installed a new remote MC from a Suzuki SV1000.  It is a Nissin and it works very well, especially with the new braided Russell lines.

Doug - I purchased mine new from a local dealer.  You could get a used one for less off some modern sportbikes.

got a model or part number for the braided line and MC - makes looking it up in the part unlimited cat a lot easier.

Parts Unlimited and Tucker Rocky carry them. Dennis Kirk should list them. Check them out here   http://www.shindypro.com/

is this the right banjo bolt or does it not matter:

Use with M10 x P1.25 banjo bolt.

I assume you are talking about this MC:

What is the correct line I need (if you can;t gimmie the part # at least confirm the banjo bolt sizes)

M10 x P1.25 banjo bolt - YES

I am running a 9 inch braded Russell line from the MC to the first connection at the stem.  My Russell line is the Pro Street series.
I installed the chrome banjos by Russell.  you can see one in my pic above.  It is a 90 degree off of the MC.  My banjo bolts are also chrome and they are Russell, they came with sealing washers.  the bolts, banjos, and lines were under 60 bucks.  i got the MC off of ebay for $56 NEW!  They retail for $130 - $140.

Hi Sparty,

So you have braided line down to the first conection below the headlight then the stock line the rest of the way to the caliper.   Do you know if russel makes a connection that will fit directly to the steel pipe that goes into the caliper or one that would go directly into the caliper?

I would like to get one line that goes from master directly into the caliper or one at least directly into the stock steel pipe that goes into the caliper.

Thx,
Doug

I ditched the stock "steel pipe" and went with new line from the master to the Guzzi "Y" block , then from their to both calipers.

So russel does have a connecter that will go directly into the stock caliper?   As it does not use a banjo bolt

I bought a CBR900 master cylinder on Ebay and it came with a couple of braided steel lines.  They fit right up to the stock caliper - same banjo bolt and everything, so I'd think most modern Nissin brakes use the same fittings.

Ah, so the regular banjo bolts will screw into the stock caliper fine?

That's great!

On my 550 I updated the master and used all Russel stainless lines.  I kept the hard line to the caliper and ordered this part from Flandersco.

This Order is for the following Parts:

Qty1.............1
Desc1............Adapt Ftg #3ANmx10-1.25f
Unit1............17.95
Total1...........17.95

Here is the site and pic..  Works like a champ...

So the stainless line attaches to this fitting with a regular banjo bolt that came with the line?
