Screw/bolt kit for K7
« on: October 06, 2015, 09:19:47 AM »
Has anyone come across anything like this on Ebay or somewhere? Screws on my alternator cover were badly stripped. Thanks!

Right or wrong? My local CB 750 guru doesn't like allen bolts for side covers. His reasons are: (1) Not authentic (2) Too easily over-tightened by amateurs. On the other hand, original screws and bolts are hard to come by. Does anyone know of a source for Phillips side cover screws? It is probably wise to invest in a set of JIS screw drivers if you want an original look. They are also good to have to take apart 40 year old Japanese bikes.

source:  bolt depot (phillips, not JIS)
for a trailer queen show bike, yeah, ok.

but these kits have it all and are sorted by cover/use.

Thanks for the link Flybox1....yeah, I was wondering too if anyone sold the Phillips head screws in a kit but these should work fine too.

The newbies should invest in a torque wrench if they're getting these!

There are std srewdrivers for allen heads. Difficult to over torque. I have complete set for M4-M8. Make the assembly  easier.

I personally like allen keys but I have digital torque wrench for when I do head gaskets or the such but just doing side covers I just know when to stop with the Allen keys

I have a 1/4" drive, inch/lbs torque wrench for the allen bolts. Easy to use. Never over-tightened!

Side cover bolts are 6mm and use less than 8# of torque. Unless you are sealing a rubber o-ring, "snug" is amply tight

Learn to use your middle two fingers on an Allen wrench for 6mm..
If that's hard.  Cut it down to three inches length..
