Mini Speedo Woes
« on: October 07, 2015, 06:11:28 PM »
Halfway home from work today my speedometer suddenly stopped working. I thought it might have come undone so I pulled over to check. Everything was still connected.

So, I figured the cable must have snapped and just continued home. I looked down though and noticed that the millage on the speedo's odometer was still going up.

I took a closer look when I got home and it looks like the Speedo's needle is now somehow on the wrong side of the peg at 0 mph. Not sure how the Speedo works, is it under some kind of spring tension and it released and spun around or could it just have hopped over the peg?

I soft mounted it on rubber to try to avoid any problems from vibration. I don't even have 1000 miles on this yet so I'll be bummed if it's toast.

Any thoughts?

Haha, no, I was only going about 60. I'll try disconnecting the cable at the top end and see if the needle swings back. I tried undoing it at the bottom and spinning it with a screwdriver, it has a little movement.

I'll let you know how it goes, thanks Cal.

I took the speedo off over the weekend and I'm pretty sure it's just broken. This one seemed to be made a little cheaper than the tach or the mini speedo with idiot lights that I have on my 750. I ordered a slightly different one so we'll see how this one compares once I get it.
