Any other car folks? What do you drive?
« on: October 08, 2015, 03:08:50 PM »
I'm assuming with the amount of love and work that goes into yall's bikes that there have to be quite a few cars guys out there.

I'll start.

2009 BMW 335i, bought about 2 months ago to replaced my totaled '12 Touareg.  The Touareg was my attempt at being an adult now that I have a child (and another on the way.)  My compromise with my fiance was a 4 door sports car.  Currently just has an MHD stage 1 tune.  Next on the list is a carbon cleaning, 5" FMIC, Downpipes, Intakes and charge pipe.  Was going to get that sooner, but the desire to own an old Honda bike bit me square in the rear.

In the past I've owned SW20 MR2's, AW11 MR2, 240SX's, MKIII Supra, 370Z, E46M3, Z32 300ZX, B13 SER and an RX8.

2000 Ranger pickup.  Have no plans on getting a new one unless of course Ford makes a new one.  I have never owned anything but Rangers.

In the past I've had a 69 Boss 302, a couple of 70 Pontiac GP's and a 78 Trans Am. Don't ask me how I went from Ford to Pontiac, it just happened that way. I've got enough parts to put another Pontiac engine together but nothing to drop it into, I did kick the idea around of stuffing one in my previous S10 but the parts needed to do it right were more than I was willing to spend. I used to live, eat, drink cars but the cost of building a car the way I want it (I want a car that can do everything well not just go in a straight line) is way out of my budget and I said bye bye to my car hobby once I sold my mint condition 70 GP years ago. Messing with old Honda's is what keeps my love for all things mechanical happy now days.

2003 GMC crew cab duallie lowered 6" front and 8" rear, Still tows. Sitting in the shop is my old 40 chevy coupe 355 4 speed patiently waiting on fresh bodywork and my, bought by me used in 1970, 69 firebird total resto project. Ready to begin whenever I get all these hondas out of the way.
All these things have waited because of my racing habit.

In the 70's I had a friend begging me to give him 3K for his Ram air 4 speed 455 HO trans am. Gas sucked and insurance was an arm and a leg. I didn't have the foresight to buy it.

I drive 1986 CJ7 since I bought it in 1998, did a frame up on it in 2009.

Actually replaced the frame too, since I got rear ended and it was all out of whack, the frame and the tub.

It could be said I am a motor car agnostic. I own a Peugeot 407sw. I feel better having that off my chest. No photo necessary, anyone can in their mind's eye imagine a POS.

In fairness, when I bought it I had several projects in mind which required a car with lots of room with the rear seats folded. I have had that sucker filled with up to 20 bags of cement. Other times two oak doors complete with frames. It's frugal (app 5.5l per 100Km), reliable and easy to service - really everything is easy to access - very rare these days.

But it's still a POS nevertheless.

Kev

PS it's for sale. Anyone interested ?

My wet ride is my 63 Scout

and when it really cold and dry I drive my bug.

Both my wife and I are certified gearheads and have had MANY vehicles over the years and we are really partial to International Harvester junkiron. At one time we had 6 Scouts in the barn, with a Wagonmaster, a few Ford Duallies, Alpenlite 5th wheel, and an S&S cabover camper when we had the 22 acre ranch.

I think one of my funnest cars was my 23 T-bucket with a 450hp stroker engine. But now that I'm retired and taking care of Mom's, we have moved into a little senior mobile park and we got rid of most everything. We will eventually end up in north/east Oregon with a modest house and a 5000 sq' + shop to play with our addictions and the grandkids.

I remember being in a local Ford dealership in 1965 with my mom when I spotted an original 289 Cobra sitting there.  I suggested she would look cool driving it.  She asked why she would want a 2 seat car with 2 kids to haul around.  I replied my sister could just walk.  She bought a 66 Mustang instead. Oh well, I tried.

Just curious but what kind of leg room does the driver have? My Uncle has an older Cobra kit car (don't know the manufacturer) with an automatic trans and my knees are right up on the bottom of the dash making it damn near impossible for me to safely operate the throttle and brake pedal, I'd hate to see what it's like with a manual trans. Don't get me wrong I'm not dissing your car, I love Cobras but his is the first one I've actually sat in and don't know how well it represents an actual Cobra. I know my Uncle at first wanted a Factory Five kit to build himself but settled on the one he has that was already put together.

I'm 6'3 and have plenty of room.  I can straight leg my clutch side while cruising.  There are addition mods that can be done beyond stock to accommodate larger folks.

My first car as a teenager was a 10 year old '71 2002.  Mine got a left turn in front of it.  A friend still has one around, cancer on the rear shock towers becomes a problem.

I call my daily driver an Oldsmobimmer.
