Only one more thing I can see that might give you grief - the brake light switch hooks onto the back of the pivot piece on 77/78 models so the brake lever doesn't have the little tang to hook the switch actuator spring to, so I would also try and get the little brake switch holder bracket that goes under the top rear engine mount nut.
John
I noticed that. Been trying to figure out what I'm up against there. Since it'll be mostly out of sight, I was thinking I could fabricate one. But I'll look for one of the brackets if that won't do the trick.
Only one p.s. before upgrading the brake lever maybe see if your original one would work with the longer shaft?
I did check that - thanks. The straight shape of the 75 lever means it has to be moved almost 2 inches further out to clear the pipes, which I think would make it stick out too far. And of course, that would put the pedal 2 inches to the right (unless I can bend the lever, which comes with more challenges), which might make it easy to miss in an emergency stop.
I'm resigned to buying the 77/78 lever, shaft and spring. Not too much of a concern, if it will work. Then there's the possible kick starter problem, but I'll wait to see if mine works before tackling that. I think a 77/78 version would work.
Oh, and I have a problem with the side stand. It mounts several inches further toward the front on the 75/76 than it does on the 77/78. So, the stand hits the exhaust pipe before it folds up completely. I don't want to weld my frame because it still has the original paint, so I'm not sure what I'll do. I'm hoping I can find another stand that will somehow fit.
Thanks again, John!
