Telefix or Driveaway Mat?
« on: October 31, 2006, 11:27:49 PM »
Anyone use these?  The imminent arrival of a third bike means rearranging my garage and moving the others around regularly.

this bikeslider works well in small garages (with a smooth floor). it's been "on special" for the last few years @ $199 (USD).

http://www.handyindustries.com/shop/product_view.asp?idProduct=933&D=0&S=

each one comes in a box about 3 foot square, 9 inches deep, 150 pounds.  it's the cheapest on the market and you can park the bike on its centerstand.  i bought two of them last spring and am very happy with them.

Telefix is made by a German company and they make a "whole bike" model as well.

Might wait until the next bike show and see what's on offer.

That's what I was trying to figure out on the other thread, inappropriately named perhaps?

Refer to  http://www.sohc4.us/forums/index.php?topic=14853.0

Lots of choices, some homebuilt solutions, some finely machined.  The 'mat' is a cool idea with a centerstand, but for those of us who don't have centerstands on some bikes, we need a solution that allows us to drive the whole bike onto the thing and then swivel it.  Guess it depends on your personal choice.  I am going to try the homebuilt for starters.  Cheaper solution.

It was that thread that started me thinking (and googling)

I had seen a CB900 on eBay a while back standing on one of these things and wondered where they came from.

The turntable thingy looks like it has to be fixed to the ground (although I could find no mention of this on their site) so wouldn't really help.

this message is where i originally found out about the $200 special, and it mentions some other options as well:
http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-298.html

BTW crash, i picked it up at one of their cdn distributors in mississauga for $250 (cdn).  i think the local cdn product was about twice that price.  woohoo for free trade  ;D ;D ;D   the bike can be parked on the sidestand too.

(for a while i was using a fast food tray under the rear wheel to slide the bike around in the garage, but i figured $250 was cheaper than a chiropractor.)

A buddy made sliding platform that he drives the bike up on to. Works like a charm and wasn't that hard to put together and didn't break the bank. 2x4s, 3/4 plywood, some casters, bob's your uncle. :)

El K, I like that Handy Industries stand. Problem is, the Cdn distributor is too close to several strip clubs and I may never make it there with my 250.00 intact.  :o    I have to struggle with my vehicles as I pass these places, there are large magnets in these clubs which draw vehicles into the parking lot despite the best efforts of the driver/rider.

Anyway, if my Valkyrie fits the dimensions of this stand I may pick one up.  The guy in Campbellville that makes the other stand wants around 500.00 and that's way to much for my blood (Scottish heritage I suppose).

FWIW I use my cheap Costco bike lift to move the bikes around. 2 wheels are fixed and 2 are castoring so I can tuck the bikes into pretty tight spots. Doesn't work on a bike with the exhaust underneath, or with a fairing, of course.

The Norton has been sitting on it for the duration.

The one I use cost about $120CDN from Costco about 5 years ago. Here is one that looks pretty similar:

We've got a large Costco round our way but I've never seen anything like this in there.

Picked one up from Sears last year on sale for $70 . Works OK if the floor is smooth and level.
