Some time ago I sold my HM300 exhaust in good condition with a set of new baffles. Without knowing what I had I posted it online without asking price on the Norwegian answer to eBay/Craigslist. A older guy was interested and offered me 350$ and said they weren't worth much more than that so I accepted his offer.
The exhaust was sitting on my 73 cb750 which was put together in the US and imported to Norway. I have some paperwork from the US which I can post some info about if anyone is interested about who built it.
Anyways I have lately understood that these pipes are rare and pretty expensive.. Don't know if they have been sold or if the guy still have them

The pipes have gone up in value since you sold them, but yes, you sold them too cheaply. You didn't get fooled though. The buyer is not obligated to educate you and pay you more than you ask. If you were a surviving spouse and it was clear you didn't know anything about the part I would probably be nice and pay more. But if I juts think you didn't take the time to understand what you have I am not going to voluntarily pay more.
I am always surprised when I see a rare or desirable part for a motorcycle or car listed very cheaply. I got my almost impossible to find 18x3 Cb750F Lester for $50 off Ebay from a seller who has a motorcycle parts business and thought is was for a different bike. 2 minutes on Google would have taught him what he had and how rare and desirable it was. I happily took advantage of his ignorance.
A couple years back I ran across a girl selling an old Honda rolling frame her ex-boyfriend had left behind. She wanted $50 I think. Except she included a picture of the frame VIN, and it was a K0 frame that would have fallen in the sandcast range. In her case I reached out to tell her what she had and what a more reasonable price was.
The lesson of your story is make sure you know what you have.
