How's it sound so far?
« on: October 20, 2015, 07:30:42 AM »
So I got the bike running on all 4 cylinders finally.  I think the sound I'm hearing at idle is timing chain?  Also excuse the really crappy exhaust, it's some straight exhaust that someone at some point put on it and it's all rusted and probably leaking at the head.

Also having an issue with the idle taking a while to come back down but that's probably due to it needing a sync and messing with the IMS a bit.

Idle hanging up like that means you're lean sonewhere, time for some plug chops!

Alright I'll have to look into how to do plug chops.  I just assumed since the carbs were rebuilt and only bench synced, that it may need a proper vacuum syncing.

The exhaust is leaking, but it's still weak on one or more cylinders.
Those infra red thermometers can identify which exhausts are cooler and carbs that need attention, or need opening (sync)
syncing will even things out, but only if all the cylinders are running.
up to you to work out if it's the carb on any cylinder not opening enough (sync) or not running properly to start with, plugs, tappets, compression, flooding, starving, blocked. often some combination of all.

All at the same time.

Well I dropped the bowl for number 1 carb today, and the main jet was sitting in the bottom of it.  So that could cause problems...hahaha.  It's too late to fire up and check with a sleeping baby, but tomorrow is a new day.  New plugs and new plug caps.  Gonna adjust valves and check timing tomorrow
