Strange CB750 engine number - B750GE-101****
« on: October 24, 2015, 02:15:45 PM »
Hello All, can anyone help ID the above CB750 engine. The number doesn't match anything I have seen in published numbers, most start CB750E, followed by a dash then 7 digits.

The 101**** bit would seem to indicate it's an early one, but under some poor silver paint it is black so more like later F2? (But then again the black might not be original either....)

So why no C at the front of the number and the addition of the G?

I got the engine some years ago as part of a job lot and am now looking to restore it for a project I'm starting, so it would be nice to know what I have here.

Cheers
Alan

What are the other 4 numbers? It could be a sand cast 69 or a K0 70 model. Black would not have been original.
They could be replacement cases that were restamped. Honda never used those numbers in the CB750 VINs

Well there you go. Learn something new everyday. UK model F2. Still would like to know the last 4 digits of his VIN to know if it's a sandcast or not. (never mind SC would be a 100**** not a 101****)
That explains the "G", but the F2 was a 77 model and all the charts show 77 F2 VINs starting at 260****. So it's still a bit fishy.

Thanks all for your help. My money was on F2 as the black casings seemed to be original, under the silver paint that some numpty had sprayed on.

Interesting that CMS seem to be more informed about engine numbers than anyone else.

Hi everyone,

I have acquired a restoration CB750K project but was also hoping for some help with serial numbers please.
the bike is a 1979 registered bike but I'm a little confused over the VIN CB750K2734575 which I think puts it earlier in manufacture?

the original engine went missing at some point but I have a replacement SOHC with a similar engine number to this thread B750GE-1000694, is this an F2 Engine and  any idea of year would be really helpful please.

Sorry new on here, please could someone advise what range of engine numbers should I be looking for to put  a 750k engine back in so that it was close to matching frame and engine numbers?

thanks

VIN numbering processes were quite different between regions, and cannot be compared.
