I have become increasing interested at being able to make a part time or full time income from internet marketing, social media and/or E-Commerce, and would like to know if anyone here makes a living that way.

Edit:
Wow!  Guess no one here make their living off the net?  This is surprising to me as online sales is currently one of the fastest growing industries in the history expected to top $1 Trillion dollars a year in a few short years.

I am a software engineer and I make a living building mobile and web applications but all focused in a specific industry. Not doing ecommerce and internet marketing.

Have you ever made any mobile apps that can take a pic, let a user add some text and upload to a website?

I have. Some years ago I made a disaster management app as part of  an emergency service software, where they could take a picture of some accident or fire etc., put a caption, and send it to dispatch, then they share out that image to other agencies in the loop.

The reason I ask is I would like a very simple app to take a pic of a part, add a caption and post to the web.  I got tons of parts and want to greatly speed up the listing process.  I don't want a full blow app just want to get the stuff uploaded as quickly as possible.

The ideal scenario would be 1 tap to launch, snap some pics, add a caption, then tap to upload.

I could then use PHP or other scripting language to load up the pictures in a list, add a full description, price, etc and post to my store.

I know Ebay and others have this, but it requires lots of clicks and looks cumbersome.  This would be for batch jobs only not one offs.

One more think rsank which do you think is the quickest to install, and easiest to use sdk/ide/phone combo?

Looking at this now.

Try the intel xdk.
https://software.intel.com/en-us/intel-xdk

It is quite easy to use. I had built native applications but now with html5 it is easier to develop a simple photo app.

Thanks I will look into that.  I have about 6 year programming and development and 15 total years IT.  What I have found is that researching SDK/IDE combos and then configuring them is very time consuming no matter the platform.  I like the idea of HTML5.  I would be the only one using it.

With your experience in programming, you won't have a problem coming up with a good app. The good thing about the XDK is, your one project can be deployed on multiple platforms (iOS, Android, Windows etc). It will save time and it works for simple apps,  more complex apps are best served with a native application, IMHO.

Thanks that is what I need. Last question on this topic.  What do you think of that Windows mobile phone 10?  It is only $149 at the Windows store in the mall and has a nice camera.  I am only posting pictures to a website.

I also have C# and .net experience if that is relevant to this task.

I like what I read about the windows 10 os. I haven't used the phone itself, so can't comment on the hardware. The phone interface very easy to use and they have done a good job on it. I had played with a Nokia phone that was running a previous version of Windows and I liked it. But I don't know if it will take over the market share of IPhone and Android. If you are planning to build a Windows universal app, then C# will be the way to do it. You don't need to bother with supporting the other app ecosystems. There could be a good opportunity in just focusing on that platform, especially if it starts to gain traction.

I am mostly being selfish right now just trying to solve part parts posting problems.  If I am happy with it and it gives me a good boost in productivity I will then work on cross platform.

I get the shakes when I think of spending a whole day installing an os, framework, sdk and ide.  Then configuring it.  It will take longer to install the software than to write the program.

I really need to make a VM with all the junk and back it up.

It sounds like you are doing the right thing by building something that addresses a problem you have. It is the best way to build a product because  you are your own client. Once you have it built, others will be knocking on your door. Yes, this whole installation thing is a big time sink, there is almost no escape from it. lol

Maybe I can hire a dude form India on Elance or Fiverr to do the mindless configuration for me.  Always hated that part.
