I just fell in love!...

Thruxton R 1200. Where were you Baby, when I was looking for a new bike two months ago? I guess, the wife needs to get her license now--to take the new Harley off my hands. What was I thinking...

•Twin floating Brembo discs
•Racing Brembo monobloc callipers
•Brembo master cylinder
•Race bred, fully-adjustable Showa big piston forks
•Fully adjustable Öhlins twin rear shocks
•Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa tyres
• Torque 120 Nm at 4950rpm

Actually, the more I look at it,  the more I want it. Thankfully, it's nothing like the old--as I had my share of them. To me, it's a gorgeous bike, with the looks of the classic café racer--but with a suspension (Oehlins) and brakes (Brembo) that would be my first choice today. I will have to get this one. I hope the wife enjoys the H-D. The Sportster got a great engine--and that concludes the list of positive points that I could discover. Some things are actually an insult. Thankfully, we all have a different taste. I have always liked Café racers--and who does them better than the British?

I know what I am looking at , I prefer his sporty..
I love the look of early Triumph motors, but not those, and increased handling or better components it that area are not a requirement for me..
I know why other people like it, but its for reasons that dont matter to me..and some others..

But you said it was "wrong"..?  The Thruxton is their vintage racer/cafe model. I get the charm of the old Trumpies but you can't beat the reliability of the newer bikes, I think "wrong" was the wrong word, especially when compared to a sporty {no comparison what so ever} ..not to your taste maybe..?...

It has fakey Amal looking things that turn out to be fuel injection in disguise..
Fake stuff and excess plastic are two things that dont do it for a lot of trad riders..

I like the swingarm and rims, and it has good brakes.

My neighbor had an 09 green and white triumph that looked like a Bonny..
And pretty soon ....everytime I walked buy it I would notice things that looked less and less like the old Trumph motor I liked so much... Pretty soon it only vaguely resembled it
Maybe because I never had a vintage Triumph to get sick of it... Is why I have that warm fuzzy feeling for them.
I know a guy has 6 of the old and one new.. I will ask him soon how he feels about the late.
BTW his early ones are immaculate, and the one he rides are one kick starters..always..

I can't find a better pic to look at close up but I agree, I had a CBX750 honda that had fake velocity stack/covers stock, I took them off... ::)

Actually, I just looked on the Triumph site and those are the throttle bodies and are all Aluminum, I don't mind that, 1200cc's too...hmmmm

Sean ,nice try, I see an aircleaner , and would have to walk around and bend to see what is behind it, on the Sporty.....and I bet it looks like the FI unit.
Do you know what  a Monobloc is ?..... Well the new Triumph has a FAKEaBloc on it , which looks a lot like a monobloc.... Nothing liking whoring out the likenes of a part used 40 years back, to try to buy cred for a new rendition..
But first I should apologize to Wobbly, he obviously really like the look of the machine.
And the machine does look great... But that entirely depends on what you want out of life.
If you like it the way it is great.. If you want to mod it,, not much left to do....and to me that gets boring fast.
I just find it much cooler, to build a bike that looks like that, and it looks like your bike.
But the folks that buy these, will have to get used to the fact that you are going to see the same thing you are riding..except en masse ...at any major bike event..
They only solution , is if its part of your fleet of bikes.. Then you have others to express your individualism on.

The Thruxton R actually does come with Racing Brembo monobloc calipers.
The H-D is a pretty bike (I wasn't blind when I just bought it), and after changing the shocks (Wilbers) and fork springs (Progressive), it actually handles okay. Other necessities were readily available from H-D (like a fuel gauge for instance, or the digital oil dip stick). The tires, however, should be illegal in the rain. :)
But no matter how much money I put into it, and it's been several thousand Dollars already, I know now that it will never be the bike I want. Now, if I could transplant its engine into my BMW RR...B.T.W.: I bought the RR not because of its 200 horsepower engine--but because it looked like a modern café racer to me.

My first and true love is my CB750. But not because it is a classic bike--it was not when I bought it 38 years ago--but because we got old together. That's why I don't ride it in the winter anymore--it's too precious to me. If I would have had the money back then, however, it would have been a Laverda 1000 or 900 Ducati Supersport.

Frank, I appreciate your point of view wanting to have your individual bike. But I simply picked the wrong bike as a basis for that while I was--as a friend put it--in a BMW coma because of my terrible experience with that brand. I like the Harley for what it is, but it's not what I need as a first bike. If I could built a motorcycle they way I want it, it would be pretty close to what the Thruxton R looks like with all its modern features--but with a V2 engine. You know, the kind the Harley has. Until I saw the new Thruxton R with its 1200cc engine, the new Norton Commando Café racer was my first choice for a new bike--but a bit pricey for a bike I will ride in the winter. And I never saw one of these on the road. And I don't believe I will spot that many Thruxton R bikes, especially not with the tracker or café racer kit installed. But when I do, I be happy to buy their owners a coffee.

To some others: Those who never drove a modern sport bike, but talk with authority about them and their features, should perhaps try them first before voicing a conclusion. Sometimes the arguments reminds me of: "I would habe bought the Ferrari, but the ash tray was too small. That's why I got a Spectrum."
No, I wouldn't put an upside-down fork on my old Honda, but I appreciate the quality of modern suspension on a 2016 motorcycle. The Thruxton is no fake--it's the real thing. It does not pretend to be what it is not. It's a modern sport bike, traction control and all, in a pretty, classic package. I "dig" the bike and I love its looks very much. When I see a beautiful woman, I don't care if she can cook. I am sure though that the Thruxton will "cook" just fine. Motorcycles don't have to make sense. If I be sensible, I should ride a BMW GS or something like that. But I rather walk than being seen on that type of bike.  The RR was the most unreliable bike I ever owned, but I still like its looks--but don't have the money to stock up on engines. When I say "most unreliable", however, I come to this conclusion because I really never took challenging rides with my Triumphs or BSA, for otherwise the result would have been certainly different (Amal, Lucas, and all). They were good for a sunny afternoon ride (a lot of people here don't seem to do much more than that)-but I seriously drive long distances (that's all I do these days)--even in the winter. Therefore, I don't own a house. :) Perhaps that is why I appreciate a lot of the new technology, especially when it comes in a pretty package.

Imagine how boring it would be, if all would have the same taste and priorities.

Andy,
They will only be available starting January 2016. There is not even a price tag on them yet. And I have to get rid of the BMW first because I cannot register anymore bikes right now. I had to get an exception signed off by the Commanding Officer to get the H-D registered as a third bike (being overseas, I have military registrations). But I will get one in 2016 unless I drop dead before getting a chance to do so. I have no choice but to buy one because the voices I my head tell me to do so--against all reason. That's what love does to you. :)

Hey I had a bad Beemer too....lots of issues.. ..not to the xtent you did.. R100RT..81 I think.
But I loved its ability to jump onand ride a thousand miles in a day.... Great fun.
We have a new member here, who has not yet posted much, has the most amazing Triumphs..
At least 4 from the 60,and 70,s. The street one he rides look and run flawlessly..
He does not seem to have the problems so many others have.. But he is thorough and does all his own work. He really does not. have al, the electrical problems others are plagued with, one bike has the 40 year old headlight still in it. He had one of the triumphs out a few weeks ago  ..nighttime..18 miles of backroads each way... No sweat.. Started first kick when he left too.
I asked him if it had a bit to do with making sure the electrical contacts clean and covered, and he said yes, it really makes a difference.
When he gets back here, will try to get him to post some of his bikes..3 of the Triumphs are, original street tracker, built over 35 years ago, sixties dragbike restored, and a Triumph Trackmaster 750..
 Cool stuff..

I'm just curious to see what that new 1200cc engine is like, I have a soft spot for Brit bikes, I do prefer the old Nortons over the old trumpies though.  H2R eh, if it wasn't so bloody expensive I would love the new Honda RC-213V-S , not the anemic 90hp version the Americans are getting though   ;D

That's a nice looking bike Wobbly, as much as I love my 1200 Sporty too, we're talking chalk and cheese here, you've essentially got a whole new twin cylinder sports bike being compared to an old American V twin that hasn't changed much "design wise" in it's 50(+) year model run. To me, that's part of the charm, but to the "newer is better" set, not so much.

Modern Triumphs are great, I love my 2007 Rocket III Classic that's been in the family since new too. The quality, fit and finish is as good as Harley Davidson, but I did have a major issue with a manufacturing process fault (not a design fault) which could have caused the engine to explode after only around 5000 miles, but as the bike was out of warranty, Triumph, who knew about the problem, didn't offer a recall, and didn't do the repairs for free, so it cost me another $2209.00 to fix what should have been done for free on a bike that cost $32,500 only a couple of years earlier.

They did install their "secret" upgrade kit as part of the repairs, (which took 5 weeks) which involved around $5000 worth of new parts that take it up to the post 2010 spec, when the engine pretty much became bullet proof. I always liked the new Bonnevilles, but understand where Frank is coming from too, the old Triumph twins were slim and light with excellent handling and around the same power as a modern Bonny, without the bulk. I think Triumph had to add the bulk to make them reliable, something that obviously wasn't a KPI for Triumph, "Back in the day".

So, after my disappointing after sales experience, would I buy a new Triumph like the 1200 Thruxton? Yeah, I think I would, I've heard both good and bad about the new Norton Commando's, but of the two, I think the Triumph would be a better all round bike. I too will look forward to seeing your pics of the new Triumph up in the Alps. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

The "carbs" are fake.
These arttraps hide the fuel injection.
