LETS TALK ABOUT "STREET" CAMS..... AGAIN....
« on: November 01, 2006, 07:50:05 PM »
I have read all I can find here regarding putting a "street" cam*  in a 550, but am still unsure of the gain.
It seems to me that it is essentially a bolt on improvement, (adjust timing) but what kind of hp gain are we looking @?
I am running 115 mainjets, uni pods and open pipes, and it it running WELL, especially since it has cooled off on
this side of the erf.
I WANT to do it but is it worth it? that is a stupid way to put it, but....
does anyone have 2 cents... especially if you have done it...

what i am looking @

I installed a yoshi stage 2(3/4 race) cam in the somewhat shortened 500 in my avatar, sorry I can't remember the specs for it, but over the standing 1/4 mile it dropped my ET by about a half second and increased my terminal speed by about 10 mph, this was done in tandem with velocity stacks and a 4into1. the bike remained easy to start and would still idle nicely when well tuned

Hi Chris, the cam will give you more power, how much I can't say, but the best way to get power is by having the head flowed.

What happened to that 72 750 that you was going to cafe ?

That setup is just about guaranteed to get you to 155+ mph in the CB550.

Sorry, just couldn't resist.

I've heard that if it's been dynoed, you can push that figure another 10mph with that particular cam! (I couldn't resist either!)
