How come my stator cover doesn't look like everyone else's??
« on: November 01, 2015, 10:09:48 AM »
Total newb questions here. I searched the site and also the inter-web, but to no avail. I thought this might be the best place for it. My stator cover is flat with no Honda logo on it. I originally thought it had been sanded out by the previous owner, but after comparing it to another one  that I have (see pic), there is no way this could have happened. The depth of the ring groove and screw recesses are the same. If the logo had been sanded out, the ring groove would be gone too. It also fits perfectly. Any ideas? Is this some kind of knock-off part?

Looks good, if they welded it, they did a superb job...
Is there other little mods on the bike..?

Other than the stator cover and some late 70's headlight parts, i didn't notice any other modifications. The bike was a pretty bad basket case when I bought it though. I suppose it could have been welded and sanded. It just looks so smooth with no weld demarcations at all.

I would trade a good cover for it but the shipping would kill me.
I agree the thin areas are tricky to weld.. A good welder can pull it off.. First place i looked !
 I sorta like it..

I built parts for guys like that.. One guys spent about 20 or more hours on his firewall in his truck.. About 30 hrs on the outside of his cylinder heads..  And was the same all over his bike..
We put 4 brakes on his bike, got a stainless sprocket made, all rotors and sprockets drilled the same... It went on and on....crazy detail freak..

I remember seeing it someone from some cb750 Japan site. This is a aftermarket part from Japan.

I think I have one, I'll try and get an image tomorrow and send it. From memory it's a 2 screw mount, at 3 and 9 oclock. No nothing, but flat.

Just a guess, but I’d say your smooth cover was a period aftermarket part sold under the Lifeline brand as they made two different types. The first type has the “Made in Japan” missing from cover and the second type was the all-smooth cover. Lifeline first type:
