RE: Top 10 cities for CB750 according to Google Trends
« on: November 03, 2015, 05:28:43 PM »
So I was doing a little research and though what would happen if I plug in CB750 into Google Trends, and the results were quite revealing.

Source: https://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=cb750&geo=US

By clicking on all 50 states I pulled the top 10 cities for the search term cb750.  I was surprised that Austin did not make the list!

Seattle, 100
San Francisoc 82
Los Angelous, 100
Dallas FT Worth, 100
Minnapolis mn st paul, 100
Chicargo IL, 100
Atlanta GA, 100
NYC, 100
Boston, 100
Detroit MI, 100

Nice idea, but with cb750 as specification you get results for all type of 750 from the first SOHC to the last DOHC models, afaik Honda still builds 750 inline fours under that name... ;)

I'm surprised Portland isnt right there with Seattle.

You have to drill down.  Maybe Google can only get close geographically?  I am not familar with their geo algorithm.

As for SOHC vs DOHC I thought of it as well, but with less and less SOHCs available more are turning to the more affordable dohc models.  Who is to say they are not the same crowd?  No way to know for sure.

I might do the same type of a search for a more general term like vapor blasting or powdercoating.  It should turn up the same cities.

Next to the U.S., Germany was the biggest market and nowhere else do I see more N.O.S. parts offered (check EBay) or 750 SOHC bikes today (certainly tons more than I ever saw back home in California). Yet, if you search globally, it's not even listed (neither is the U.K.). So, I don't think that this means a thing, and it is definitely not revealing at all.

Yes it is based off Google searches and is standardized based on search volume on a scale from 0 to 100.

Before you discount the results completely notice the same pattern of interest in the line graph occurs over and over for 10 years.  Interest is lowest in December and peaks in May.  Very consistently.

I think they are counting Portland and Seattle as one, or people in Portland spend more time ridding than googling cb750s.
