I'm 46. Born a few days before Armstrong walked on the moon. And--more importantly--the same year the CB750 was 'born'!

Been riding since I was 8. First bike? Yamaha GT80, shared with two brothers and a sister--hard to get enough seat time. ;-) Thankfully, Mom & Dad soon bought a Yamaha DT100 to add to the stable. Then a friend gave us a Yamaha DT175 (c. 1971?) Bigger and better! After leaving home I rebuilt a Suzuki RM125 basket-case. Got a Yamaha XT250. Lots of offroad fun! And then I rode my cousin's Suzuki Katana GSX-600F (hello pavement!) Which I bought from him and racked up 50k km over the next five years (it was my 'daily driver'--I didn't have a car, which is kind of hard to do up here in Canada...) After that came a Suzuki SV650 S, their v-twin sport bike. I'd like to have that one back... I have a Yamaha TT250-R in Solomon Islands (where I work). I've only been without a bike for one year in the 38 years I've been riding. And just last year my dad asked if I wanted his '76 CB750K--he wanted it out of his garage. Um..., OK! It hadn't run for 8 years, so I took the top end off to have a peek inside (esp. at the condition of the valves and clutch and timing chain tensioner) and now I'm putting it back together. Waiting for a hub from Devin (CognitoMoto) to finish off a GSX-R750 front-end swap. I don't think I could handle the spindly stock forks.

Thinking this thread should have had a 'poll' thingy at the start... But fun to read people's histories. Thanks for sharing!

Hey Thanks Fly, I appreciate that. Came out pretty good for my first one. I got lucky finding the whole set of those finned covers at RIce-O-Rama here in the Northeast, points, clutch, alternator cover. I picked up a finned starter cover on ebay that said "New" but it was obviously some knuckle head who was making them himself because the casting was too large by about a 1/4" and the surface was bumpy.

So for anyone looking for one if you see them on ebay by a guy named "Claponstrat" , They are pieces of junk.

There are some AMAZING bikes on this forum and I think it would be so cool to have a Gathering of the CB's sometime where everyone got together to check out eachothers bikes and ride..... that would be pretty sweet.

He Eric, did we talk about our locations? Where in CT are you? I'm in Monroe.

Just turned 47. My first "Big" bike to ride at 15 was a 1973 Honda 350/4....sweet bike and I have never forgotten it ! I was going to buy it but ended up getting a BSA 650. Fast forward a few years and I finally got a Classic Honda  Four and found a 1974 CB750 locally and have been obsessed with it ever since !  8)

Hey Dave, I don't think we ever have! I've not really found many forum members here in CT. I'm in Wethersfield, just south of Hartford! Shoot me a PM and although riding season is slowing down here, we'll get together in the Spring and take out the CB's !!! I Have a 78 CB750 F build going on this winter and an extra set of hands is always welcome...ha-ha. Look forward to hearing from you. Take it easy.

Just did a quick count(might of missed one or 2) on the age groups that have posted here so far:
20's 15
30's 12
40's 9
50's 18
60's 11
70's 3
I figured us 50 guys would be leading the pack here, but it surprises me that their are that many 20 age group sohc4 riders. Heck I've got underwear and socks that old ;D But I'm happy to see the young guys riding these old Honda's and realizing what great bike's they were and still are ;)

Would be interesting to know which ages are modifying these bikes (cafe's, bobbers, choppers, etc.) and which are keeping them stock or restoring them. I assume the younger a ones are modding and the older crowd are keeping stock but it would be cool to know for sure. Some sort of visual graph thing would be nice based off numbers of a vote.

There's a good idea, Dave!
But,...I'm not sure how to put me on that list, as the cafe' guys bring their bikes TO me to make them, while I restore the ones I build for sale?

Although once in a while I get to meet someone as sick as I am, who wants his 750 to look brand new....like mine (but with better paint).
_________________________________________________________________________________________

Don't know why..but funny thing happened when I tried to post earlier on this thread: Got disconnected from the SOHC website (Windows would no longer respond)..and my post was lost in the process. Didn't have the time or interest to re-compose and re-post.  But over the past 8 years of SOHC 4 forums membership (and numerous posts dropped)..this has seemed not only frustrating but somewhat suspicious to me. I haven't experienced this sort of "digital censorship" with the other websites and forums I'm active with (?)

Was wondering if any others here have experienced the same thing ?  Possibly overzealous forum monitors?

Anyway..just wanted to add here..that as an "Ojiisan" (old man in Japanese) nowadays..i realize that some of my comments and positions may be considered "out of date" by some younger SOHC members. On the other hand tho..I would really appreciate having the opportunity to express my views and remembrances with Honda bikes over the past 60 years or so.

Thanks to all who can appreciate what I'm trying to say here (especially the old timers like myself))

Cheers..

Ichi.

Hey Ichi,  As far as I'm concerned, I really appreciate any info from the "old timers". Us young guys would be lost without all the knowledge that you guys provide, My CB is a fair bit older than I am (8 years) so this is all been new to me learning about these bikes.

I always like hearing stories from the older guys so don't stop posting buddy, everyone appreciates it or gets something out of it. Take it easy guys.

Your kickstand isn't showing in the shadows below your bike, GV. See, a little observation of the facts proves this stunt is silly, dangerous, and the three of you have much to learn. In fact, there is no kickstand showing in any of the three bike's shadows.

A very poor choice of a stunt, and even poorer choice to be untruthful about the circumstances of the pictures.

The reason some of us are Old Men is that we don't do stupid things on public roadways while atop motorcycles.
