Was hoping to just replace them but they don't seem to be very available.  The powder guys seemed to think they wouldn't survive all that well..

In your shoes, I'd paint that hub before doing that again.

Spent a few hours today getting some basic assembly done.  Nils with Restocycle did another great job for me by cleaning up and refinishing a bunch of the hard to replace hardware.  I'm liking how it's coming together!

I like the combination of the blue powdercoated frame, the modern GSXR front and the bare metal tank.  Good stuff happening here.

Almost didn't go blue with the frame but I'm glad that I did.  And yeah the tank and tail look good bare but I think it will still see some paint

A little bit more progress as I got a couple care packages today.  First up was my shocks came in!   To get the front end geometry right I went a bit longer than stock this had caused a minor issue with the rear brake shaft that sits in the frame up by the swingarm pivot.  They now interfere and I'll need to cut this one down or more likely the TTR400 one when I get it.  Side benefit of getting the geometry right is the stance is leveled out a bit visually now and I'm happy with that!

Also got my cognito front hub and the led brake strip.  Hub is getting a trip to the powdercoaters as soon as figure out a few more pieces to take with it.  Taking Nils' advice on the rear hub, I'll just paint that black to match to avoid cooking the cush drives.

Need some advice.  Lacing up my front wheel and I'm pretty sure I have the pattern right but I just can't twist the hub enough to lace the 2nd set of spokes.  Building bicycle wheels I always laced one way then spun the hub to get the opposite spokes.  Buchanan supplied the wheel and made the spokes so I feel like they did their job right.  What am I doing wrong?

So I'm calling the verdict: spokes are too short.  With the holiday weekend I likely won't be starting a resolution until Wednesday or so, but at least I can work on the rear hub/ wheel.  Getting started with a high build primer:

I put an offer in on a part.  The part was listed as local pick up, but my offer included having it shipped.  He didn't see the note in my offer and accepted.  No big deal for me since he missed the note about shipping, but he refused to ship or refund for a week.  He started texting me in the meantime, talking garbage and generally being an idiot.

A couple questions for you folks:

1.  The 2 spacers on the rear axle are slightly different widths.  Which one goes on the right/left sides of the hub?  The usually helpful parts diagram has no details about their dimensions..

2.  What rear sprocket is the best quality?  There doesn't seem to be many options, and I've seen a couple reviews of the Parts Unlimited one being machined improperly on the backside.

Anyone?  The best I can tell is that the smaller spacer goes on the left (drive) side of the wheel, but I would rather know for absolute sure.

So after getting it down off the stand and rolling around, I've discovered an issue (of course!). Something is amiss with the lower race of the steering bearings.  The lower triple I noticed runs REALLY close to the head tube when I installed it.  Turns out it was touching and the bearing wasn't really engaged at all.  On the steering stem, should there be something below the lower race and seal to space it off the lower triple?

I ran into the same thing when I installled the tapered bearings in my 400. As Cal said, you need a washer beneath the lower bearing, usually the thin one. I actually recorded a nausea-inducing video about this.
