Lose your starter button spring?

Don't panic. Grab that Bic clickable pen in your pocket and remove the ink tube inside. Take the small spring off it and snip off about 4-5mm of it. The pen probably won't work anymore, but at least your starter button will.

Yes, this works like a charm. I did this last weekend. Thought I was pretty crafty. I see I wasn't the only one. 8)
Its a tough job getting the spring seated. I made a little split fork out of thin aluminum sheet with a dremel, to hold back the spring and allow for the buttons pin to slide through the fork. That also worked very well.

That's all well and good Jonesy, but what if you've still got the spring, but can't find the button :( ::)

Not sure what to tell you on that one. I'll have to figure out a quick one for that...

"Dammit Jim" was from Dr. McCoy in Star Trek. Some of his most popular sayings began with "Dammit, Jim I'm a Doctor, not a (fill in the blank)".

I think Mikes XS (the Yamaha guy) has stock and solid metal replacement button for Ymah, look same as Honda ones to me
Personally, I'd make a shiny stainless steel one ;D

Out of curiousity I purchased one of those replica ones from PartsN'More. They are a spot-on match. (Have yet to install it and see how it works, but it can easily be modded to fit.)

This is the "Tricks and Tips" section, not the "Buy it from the Dealer" section. ;) ;D

You can also use a pen spring if you lose one of the mixture screw springs.

I looked at those, but they are only for the early controls. Has anyone tried the said switch in a later model bike?
