I WANT THE CHROME !! .??
« on: November 08, 2015, 09:36:41 AM »
Two question here /:
I started restoring another cb 500.  Buying again a lot of parts ... Meaning ..$€£...

The Chrome is expensive - so ask here :  Will a cb 750 rear fender fit the cb 500/ 550 ?
-They are somewhere easier to find as reproduktion / pattern part.

Next ,  i have 8 cb 500 exhausts, two front fender, three rear fenders... But not really good chrome ( im picky).   Would it pay of to have it rechromed ? Is it possible to rechrome exhausts ?

Let me hear any opinions from you guys :)

A 76 or earlier 750 rear fender will fit. I just checked.

Don't know about chroming.

I've got a nice early 750 rear fender if you need one.

Chrome plating is now very expensive in the US.  I had some aftermarket 750 mufflers rechromed last year, I believe it was $300 for 2.

Prices for rechroming stuff definitely depends on location and quality. Phoenix, for example, is cheap. The Northeast, is not. It also depends on if they need to do repairs.

Exhausts usually have to be very clean before a lot of chrome platers will touch them due to the contaminants from fuel and oil, ring and ask before taking them to a plater...

I'd be very surprised if you can find a chrome in Denmark due to environmental reasons. Likely you'd have to ship to England at least. As Retro said, the interior of the pipes must be spotless before being chromed, so you'd have to locate a shop that has experience with exhausts as they would have a cleaning tank to prepare the surfaces.

You may fare cheaper to buy replacements if you can locate them.

Any chromer worth his/her salt would include cleaning as part of the process, at least in my experience. It's part of the prep. Then again, that's the US, I have no idea about Denmark...

When I brought my Action Four mufflers in for re-chroming, no questions were asked about the inside being clean.
There was also a pair of early Honda [CL77?] that another customer had dropped off.

I plan to have my H1 exhausts re-chromed this winter.  Wondering if all the oil in there will be a concern for him?!

Thanks for all the answers :)
I Found a set of new 4 in 4 exhausts for the bike , and ordered a rear fender for a Pre 77 Honda 750 , - so all good to go :).

Btw -  #$%* its hard effort to polish all the aluminium up to a good level of shine  :)  it really just something to get done and forget :)

Im a little worn out After the last restore, not really feeling That i Want to go that extra mile with every little detail so ... Maybe time for a few days away from the project.  I Think many of you guys know the feeling.
