I don't think that the K0's used valve seals.

Steve
The Intake side always had seals: the exhaust side did not until the K2.

So had some time finally to myself to work on the bike. Rain day from work, and lake ice to sketchy for me and my fat ass lol. So I started putting guts in my cases.

Finally closed my cases! Also set up my shifter linkage assembly. Dino's video on hackaweek was incredibly helpful, props to him. Next might work either on oil pump or clutch.

Looks great mate, though I'm a bit worried about the amount of case sealant you used, unlike your assembly lube, less sealant is better. While the grey sealant works great, any excess can drop into your oil, and if it does it'll clog your oilways (especially the tiny oil jets in the head) starve your engine of oil, and seize it. How do I know? Been there, done that, 36 years ago, but it's a lesson I've never forgotten. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I got question for you guys, I have been searching but cant find any info on how wide to bore cylinder jugs to accommodate .25mm overbore? What is min clearance required? I want to take to machine shop but want to make sure I have all info required before they work on it, thanks in advance.

G'Day mate, well I presume that you think that a "first oversize" (.25mm) overbore will remove any rust pitting, or other damage to your bores? Anyhoo, .25mm is 9.85 "Thou" (thousands of an inch) and you want another 1- 1.5 thou clearance on top of that.

Bore it too tight and the engine could seize, too loose and it will blow smoke, use oil, knock, rattle, and generally give you the sh1ts. Best thing to do is take the new pistons to a reputable reboring shop, and tell them to bore each cylinder to match each of your new pistons, with 1.5 thou clearance. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Hi guys, been away for a while form forum, with too mucch work on my plate! Had very little time to work on bike, but been a slow but steady process. Juggs have been at machine shop for a few weeks, still waiting.... got my frame painted and swing arm back on, going to start cleaning up stuff and start re-assembly slowly. Also worked on my gas tank, had about half a liter of 35 year old gas and lots of rust. Put some drywall screws and swooshed for a few days then power washed and filled with white vinegar. I can't beleive how nice it turned out. Another question I have  is if anybody know where I could find bottom half of my air filter housing? Top half is cracked but I can JB Weld, but bottom is missing a chunk unfortunately, thanks for the help.

Great job cleaning the tank. I would recommend lining it with Caswell epoxy and pressure testing it.

I wouldn't put a liner in a wrinkle tank unless it was leaking, and K tanks don't generally rust out as a matter of course, so I'd just fill it with fuel and watch it for a few days. Yamiya in Japan sell repop K0 air boxes, buy one of theirs and sell your original damaged one on eBay for the same money. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Hi guys just got my pistons and juggs back from machine shop, guy at machine shop thinks that gap in oil rings is too large, anybody know what clearance is supposed to be? If took some pictures both in MM and Inches to compare rings together and the Grove the sit in on the piston, do you thing grove is too wide or rings not thick enough? I don't have original pistons to compare with, thanks, Fred.

Yep, 1/2 of 1mm seems like a big gap mate, are they genuine Honda pistons and rings? Whenever I've installed 3 piece (or even single piece) oil rings, they are an "interference fit", i.e., they just fit, and they are able to be turned on the piston, but are rubbing on the sides of the ring "lands". What's the thickness of the scraper rings? Maybe you could buy some more and use them to "shim" the gap? But obviously, correctly fitting rings are essential. Cheers, Terry. ;D

My NOS Honda 1 piece oil rings measure 2.77 mm
I would go back to your supplier and see what they say.

Also....I dont think that you are measuring it in the best way....try installing it and then use a feeler guage.

I just had a thought, are you trying to use later 3 piece rings on a piston designed for a 1 piece ring? If Dowelpin's oil rings are 2.77 mm, I'm guessing that they're what you should be using on your pistons with a 2.87mm wide ring slot? Cheers, Terry. ;D

I think side wall clearance spec is .01-.04 mm....with a service limit of .14
I think he may have bought these as a set from Sirius....or a similar supplier.

I'd be talking to your supplier.... I'm seeing clearance spec of about .5 thou to 1.5 thou....and you have 18 thou.
However I will defer to other, more knowledgable opinions.

I don't know if I'm more knowledgable, but from my (not inconsiderable) experience there's no way you should use those oil rings on that piston mate, you've got 36 times the recommended minimum clearance with that set, so you can just imagine how long (in minutes) your engine will last if you use them. Cheers, Terry. ;D
