Well been working on other stuff in meantime, this weekend was very productive, got tires on rims and mounted rear wheel, put in fork seals and new gators, mounted forks, now onto brakes, I have calliper torn apart except for pad and cylinder, I sprayed some penetrating oil to loosen it up, what is best method to remove it, as I don't have functioning master cylinder to push it out, I heard a grease gun will work where solid pipe connects, anybody try this method? I also have another qquestio, what is easiest way to free up master cylinder up? Thanks, Fred.

Free up master cylinder: I put mine in a ultrasonic bath and added some liquid rust remover + carb cleaner fluid into the water.

Or did you mean the brake caliper?

Hey looking good mate, it's always nice to see something that someone has neglected coming back to life at the hands of an enthusiastic new owner, so give yourself a pat on the back for your efforts thus far!

Re: your stuck caliper, I don't like wasting grease, (and making a mess) so I use compressed air. Usually I've got a crappy old brake hose lying around that I'll chop in half, screw the fitting into the caliper and shove my air gun up the other end and pop the piston out.

This of course can be dangerous, so it's best to have the caliper assembled with a rag stuffed between the piston and the back of the caliper so the piston doesn't become a high speed projectile.

As for your MC, buy a rebuild kit, then remove the circlip that holds the piston in place, and if you can pull the piston well and good, if you can't, poke a punch or a rod up the hole where the brake hose bolts on, and tap the whole assembly out. The rebuild kit will include all the parts that you'll probably damage when you use this method.

As with any refurbishment, do it gently, take your time and you'll be fine. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Hey Sarge (and sorry for the off-topic question) is there any physical difference between a K0 caliper and a K1 - K6? Obviously the K0 item is silver, but I was comparing mine last weekend and couldn't see anything that really stuck out? Cheers, Terry. ;D

KO is Tokico1, has a "8" between the two middle front fins and an extra fin on the back caliper

edit:
Sorry, this may be sandcast.
Will have a look later to KO diecast.

edit2:
same on my diecast KO

Thanks mate, I'll have to check my caliper collection, I know I've got at least one genuine K0 caliper, but the PO wacked it with a hammer, so it's a bit dinged up. Luckily I've got at least two good K0 discs. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Hi guys, been away for a while form forum, with too mucch work on my plate! Had very little time to work on bike, but been a slow but steady process. Juggs have been at machine shop for a few weeks, still waiting.... got my frame painted and swing arm back on, going to start cleaning up stuff and start re-assembly slowly. Also worked on my gas tank, had about half a liter of 35 year old gas and lots of rust. Put some drywall screws and swooshed for a few days then power washed and filled with white vinegar. I can't beleive how nice it turned out. Another question I have  is if anybody know where I could find bottom half of my air filter housing? Top half is cracked but I can JB Weld, but bottom is missing a chunk unfortunately, thanks for the help.

I have what you need.   I've got a bottom half of an airbox.  Great shape.  It's gold, but you'll be painting so that won't matter.  I'll PM you.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

Sirius got back to me, and offered to refund my $, they don't have any other rings to give me. They also said they had a customer with a Honda CB450 with same issue a few years back, local guy and he's put of 10000 miles in 5 years and had no issues. I am trying to source some Honda rings to compare, when I put feeler Guage I had to compress rings together, on their own there isn't that much of a gap, but I'm going to wait for honda.

Don't be tempted to use those rings mate, or you'll be back with a "woe is me" post about how your bike blew up after 5 minutes, even though Sirius assured you that it'd be fine............ ;D

Well, im back at bike again this weekend, been super busy at work, a co-worker went down and had a 4X heart bypass, so I have been playing double duty. But I had a little time on my hands. Worked on instrument cluster and putting headlight bucket and signals. They were in actually pretty good shape, just needed some elbow grease. Also did a little mock up with seat I got from swoop, looks awesome. Just waiting for greenjeans airfilter bottom, and tank stripes to arrive to finish the paint.

Yes café racer I got lucky, bike hasn't been on road since 1980 but looks like it was out of the elements for most of its life, when I got it, it was outside, but I suspect PO put it outside to make room for his 1990 300zx that he is now working on a couple of years ago. I still have lots to go, exhaust gonna be a big one, but Scoop got me an F model 4into1 so I can at least ride it once I get it running eventually if I don't have an exhaust by then. Missed an original 4into4 in great shape by a couple of hrs, guy let them go for 650$, man was I disappointed. Gonna try to work a bit on engine for a little while till my airbox bottom shows up, then I have to prep for paint, cheers!

Looking good mate, and a hint for you if you haven't done it yet, ensuring that cast in oil hole across from where you've marked stud #5 (and it's mate on the other side of the cam chain tunnel) is clean and clear is critical to keeping your engine alive.

The later models had removable "jets" due to K0 top end failures, and it was still common for a blob of silicon sealant to destroy all an engine builders good work in one fell swoop. Make sure you at least run some compressed air thru those holes to ensure that they're not blocked.

Also, put a little sealant around the edges of the rubber "pucks" under the cam towers, or you might end up with a leak. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Thanks Terry! I did blow some air and even some oil. Go down with gravity to make sure they were clean. Also I used a bid of honda bond sealant under pucks. And I matched the engraving marks, I had to do a lot of reading and watching videos, since I never took anything apart been more of a challenge, but what fun is it without being challenging? Cheers, Fred.

Well done mate, good job. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)
