...when you get on your bike after a long absence and your are like...wow!!
That was me this evening on the 810cc K2.Its been a looooong time since I rode it. Took it out this evening to top it off with gas possibly for the winter. I had to recharge the battery over the weekend...tonight I wheeled it out of the garage, turned it on...the green LEDs in the dash came on...oooh cool sublimal glow....the blue neutral light came on (I switched the colours around)......pressed the starter...boom! The engine literally roared into life...the HM300s sounding throatier than usual...barking like a dog at every throttle twist...eeeooowwwww!!! Not even a full moon tonight
Pull in the smooth clutch and let it out, turning the throttle ever so slightly...response...sharp..quick witted...move out into the cool night...we are off...head over to Walter street...the chrome slips nonchalantly through the darkness...cutting the night like a panther on the prowl...holding back..breathing easily...ready.....turn right onto Walter Street twist the throttle, bark, bark...arms get pulled as the bike moves smoothly up the rpms...slide back on the new seat...hang on takes some effort....decadent power.... Down the hill, increasing speed, pull on the brakes at the dodgy junction, firm feedback...up the hill towards Center Street...mmmm fast! Slow it down, take a left down Center towards the VFW...pulling strong, lean into the corner....onto the VFW...snap it open...bark, bark.....feels good...5000 rpm....6000 rpm..green fluorescent glow from the dash....ethereal...increasing power.....brake hard, roundabout, lean right, up the hill, tach climbs higher, exhaust reverberates in the night air.....sexy sound...50, 60...next roundabout.....round and round...lean, lean...peel off straight...effortless steering.....power at the wrist....hit the straight up Hammond Parkway...vrooooom....thinking...does it get any better than this?
......what a way to end the night...maybe the year for the K2...well deserved and after all this time still seems like the right one...where you just know......it all works as it should...if only other aspects of life were this simple
cheers
Andy
