CB450 Over bore head gasket
« on: November 12, 2015, 12:15:17 PM »
So I have a cb450 ready for 2 over bore. Finding pistons are easy, the head gasket because it have a metal ring to protect the rest of the gasket from the explosion. Where would I find a head gasket? Would I give the gasket to the machine shop where I am having the cylinders bored to bore the gasket to?

e-bay has a top end kit for $20 I just saw.

I bought  a complete engine gasket  set and 1.0 MM over at Barber, getting ready to freshen up a motor .  I was wondering the same about the head gasket fitting because 1mm is fourth overbore.

I hear some people just use yamabond with no gasket is what I hear.  Anyone tried that?

Stock head gasket is fine out to about 8'th over (2mm).
Attempts to use no head gasket at all will result in failure, most likely - including oil leaks and compression blow-by.
Very risky to use sealants around the two (rider's) right engine studs, as they are the oil passages for the entire top end. Marginal oil pressure is one of the 450's weak points, be careful about it.

At least that's one thing i don't have to lay out more money for. I bought a new cam chain and a few followers and torsion pieces but they are all misplaced.

Thanks I tried to contact one gasket making company. They haven't gotten back to me. If the stock is fine, its going on then. I was worried about the .05mm around the edge. If it does no damage, no worries thanks guys.

I have never done an over bore before. I'll need some more equipment,  and some research.  I've put together a 750 engine, just follow the directions and she should go togeather ok.
