350 Twin Oil Seal problem
« on: October 23, 2006, 05:57:16 AM »
Hi everyone,

I am having a problem with an oil seal on my 72 CB350 Twin.  It is the seal that is on the left side of the motors that goes around the clutch push rod.  After running for a bit the seal pushes out, and oil goes everywhere.  I thought the crankcase could be preasureizing, but I get 150/160psi, so that is unlikely.  I also replaced the seal, and even tried a little (very little) RTV to hold it in, with no luck.

Any ideas?
Thanks
Jim

Check the engine breather anyway to make sure its not trapped between crank case and swing arm.
I have a set of cases so I'll take a look and see if I can find any problem areas.
Make sure you de-burr the hole so the new seal doesnt get damaged during fitting.

150/160 Cylinder pressure.  I figured if the rings were bad I could be pressurizing the case by it doesn't seem likely.

Thanks for the help!  I will take a closer look at the breather.

had a twinstar 200 with a plugged breather tube. blew the shifter seal clean out of the bike! the next left turn got real tricky, as that's when I learned something was wrong. :o

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the ideas.  I will have to take a close look at the breather.  There was a rats nest in the airbox, so it wouldn't suprise me if there was an obstruction in the breather.

Jeepurz, thanks for the offer.  I will let you know if anything is needed.  I have been too busy lately, I havent even ridden in over a month!

I had a few molments this evening and looked at the breather.  It was rock hard.  hmmm, I squezed some more and a bunch of little nuts and other critter stuff came shooting out!  I will be replacing the tube tomorrow, and the oil seal again.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for the ideas!
