I have a bunch of K0 gauges.  Ranging from excellent basically ready to go to semi disassembled/needing some work.  Tell me what level you want as price is different accordingly.  They're going to be around $150 each.

I went ahead and organized what I could, tested and made some notes on each one.  One or two I think was missing a jewel, I will include the missing jewel with it (I have some extras).

Price is going to range from $150 - $200+ per gauge.

A little bit of progress this week, engine is prepped and ready for the rebuild. I need to get a few more odds and ends before I can get it back together.

Thanks again to everyone helping out with the parts search!

Quick question:

Will a "Unicorn Triple Tree" work in conjunction with any steering yoke K0-K6? I'm unsure if I have an early or late one. It does have a lock.

Thanks MessnerMoto. Cleaning the engine turned out to be a really tough job. I read many, many threads on the subject here and on other forums.

Here's what I learned:

  • There are really no shortcuts here, this is hard work
  • Aluminum Heads and Cylinders should be cleaned with care, even razorblades can cause harm
  • Modern chemicals will not remove 35 years of baked on asbestos gasket
  • I personally do not want to spend weeks scrubbing asbestos gasket residue

For grease and general road gunk, a hot soak in degreaser works well.(Dawn dishwashing detergent with hours and hours of scrubbing) For the baked on gaskets I had a local machine shop resurface the cylinder and head. Relatively affordable and comes out great. they also cleaned them in their hot tank.

I will be rebuilding the original motor for this bike next winter, for that I am going to look into soda blasting or jet blasting. the results are hard to argue with.

Hope this helps!

dolamike,
I have a couple of extra triple trees that were in the parts I bought for these bikes I'm working on and I won't be using them.  If you need one, shoot me a PM and you can have one for the cost of shipping.  Shouldn't be more than a few bucks.

No, I don't think either of mine is the K0 unicorn one.  I'll check them in the morning to be sure but I don't think they are.

From what I have read and seen online they seem like the best option for a restoration before paint is applied. There is some commentary about Soda Blasting not being strong enough and Media or Vapor blasting leaving particulate in the engine.

I don't have any experience with either but the videos online are pretty convincing.

We soda blasted the engine cases on Stella, after cleaning & degreasing them thoroughly.  As long as you have a compressor with good pressure, it works pretty well.  But it will in no way make them look as good as Vapor Blasting does.  I plan to send the 550 cases to NobleHops for him to do those on Logan's bike.

By the way, even with soda blasting, you still need to chase the threads in each hole...even if you completely wash down the cases and/or use vinegar followed by water.  We did that on Stella and ended up finding about 4 or 5 holes that still had soda packed inside them.  Which would have made getting a bolt into those holes really tough.

Just to close the loop on the dowels, I found this thread with info from HondaMan with some history on them:

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=91874.0

This lead me to here:

http://www.hondapartsnation.com/oemparts/a/hon/506b8ca9f870023420a1e916/cylinder

It looks like the part is still available, it's #3 in the diagram. I ordered all 8 new, there is no length mentioned, just "PIN, SPECIAL KNOCK (12MM)"

I'll measure them when they arrive and update then.

CB750 K8 Cylinder Dowels came in, looks like they are special, not the 12mmx15mm, image below.

Just got the Hondaman book, really great, everyone working on these bikes should have a copy. I really like the background provided on the changes Honda made over the years, good stuff.

It immediately went into my library.

I have a few questions on the swing arm, any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

First off, it looks like I have a combination of a later bushing on one side and an earlier on the other... is it common to replace just one side?

Good news is that I have the older version with the grease fittings on both ends and the better grooves.

I'll be replacing these with the brass ones as recommended...

The ones I bought in the photo have the collar on them, it sounded like Hondaman was recommending against the collar, although the ebay seller states this is the correct one for the K series bikes.

Any opinions on this?

The electrical panel looks to be in bad shape, replace or keep?

Handsome hound you have there.

Those battery boxes often look cruddy, battery acid and fumes takes it's toll after a while. In my experience though they usually clean up well and can be repainted/powdercoated. Strip it of all the electrical components and see what you have - if it's solid under the rust, you'll be able to restore it.

Rubber O-Ring Question CB750 k8

Engine parts are rolling-in and I'm starting to take inventory before I start the re-build. I bought a gasket kit for K0-K8 bikes but I seem to be missing 4 O-Rings. They are in red in the photos below...

Does anyone have the size or spec on these, are they only in the later engines? Are there any others you see missing?

Photos below:

Included in the kit:

Head:

Cylinders:

Engine Case:

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Looks like these are Part # 91310-426-000. 11x2.5 O-Ring.

Real lame that these aren't included in the Gasket Kit, I bought it at 4into1. It should be labeled not so complete.

http://4into1.com/ne-brand-complete-gasket-set-honda-cb750-1970-1978/

Real-Real Lame that they are $5.45 each at Hous of Honda, Part 22:

http://www.houseofhondaparts.com/fiche_section_detail.asp?section=2451871&category=Motorcycles&make=Honda&year=1978&fveh=131106

Has anyone tried generic O-Rings, looks like you can buy 400 for $15 on Amazon.
