AMA Flat Track Finals and Superprestigio of the Americas
« on: November 22, 2015, 10:20:14 pm »
I spent this weekend in Vegas for the AMA Flat Track Finals and the Superprestigio of the Americas.  The inaugural event featured AMA all stars, plus Superbike riders Josh Hayes, Roger Hayden, Blake Young (former rider) and AMA superstock rider Joe Roberts, MotoGP/Moto2 rider Tony Elias and many other riders.

Although not quite as star-studded as the Superprestigio in Barcelona, we caught some great close racing.  The highlight of my weekend was meeting Kevin Schwantz.  Since my friends had buddies in the Superhooligan class, we got to watch practice from the pit.  We also had a great time drinking with Roland Sands, Jason Paul Michaels, Thor Drake (of See See), the Guardado brothers of Suicide Machine, and their crews.  All really cool guys.

There were some incredible race bikes including Bryan Smith's twin GNC1 Kawasaki 650 twin powered bike

Some Vance & Hines show/race trackers

Some pictures of Roger Hayden during practice and race heats

Meanwhile back in Long Beach the IMS show featured some great looking bikes, including a prototype FZ-07 powered tracker commissioned by Yamaha

The racing was close and exciting. The track was very short with diamond shaped turns.
Briar Bauman won the GNC1 event on Friday.
Jared Mees won the Superprestgio over Brad Baker and Kenny Coolbeth. Larry Pegram finished 4th.

Thor Drake won the Superhooligans final over Chris Wiggins and Roland Sands. Drake won a brand new Indian Scout 60 - not even available yet to dealers.

That's my buddy Ian Halcott. I gave him my RC shirt - the one RC gave members for Sam Green's recovery fund.

No, but Rog Hayden rode well through to the final, too. He fell but I think it was related to a mechanical issue. His rear wheel was throwing sparks each time he drove out of a turn. I thought it was a sprocket issue but it wasn't missing teeth when I looked at it after the race.

Monroeville farmers = George SR. GEORGE JR. an Will RODERER = George SR. was the only flat track racer I ever watched for years in the [ 50-60's ] with his BOTH feet on the pegs coming out of turn # 3 heading down the front throttle pegged and dirt flying to get that win flag from DUKE PENNEL. Not Mert, Corky, Black Bart, Kenny and my favorite RONNIE RALL # 52 the flying pig farmer from Mansfield Ohio = dam those were the days.......
