Ok I finally decided it is time to buy a "real" phone and need a little help picking one out.  Please vote tell which phone you would pick and why.  It takes me forever to research and buy stuff like so a little help would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Dont forget to add the HTC M9 to your choices.  Better battery life, SD car slot, great camera, miracast (push to tv)
Im a huge HTC fan. my last 4 smartphones have all been HTC
check it....
If you're sticking with the choices above, Samsung.
Great camera, fast performance, awesome amoled, replaceable battery,

Typically the Microsoft phones aren't relevant in a poll like this ::). The other two though, are like asking 10w40 or 20w50  :o ;D

If you're sticking to the choices above, then +1 for the Galaxy. I don't yet own a smartphone, but I do use the Galaxy from work all the time and it works great. For a while I was stuck with an iPhone and couldn't have loathed it more. I'll shut up now, before I draw some fanboy's wrath  :P :P

If you're not sticking with the poll choices, then the One Plus 2 is a good option. Unlocked and feature heavy for cheap, but the downside is its by invitation only, so you'll be waiting a while.

I have a Galaxy SIII. It's a great phone but I can not compare it. My contract was up too but they continued to charge me $65 for the 'cheap plan' after it was paid for. I switched to a better plan from Cricket for $35 using this same phone. No subsidies any more it seems. Payment plans.

Not one of the phones listed, but I grabbed a Note 5 rather than the S6.

In my opinion, it is a superior phone to all listed. Easy to use, and the camera is spectacular. Based on reviews by the people that review stuff for a living, best on the market.

My wife and I were long over due for phone upgrades, ours were 4-5 years old, a lifetime in the cell phone universe.  ;) We upgraded to the Galaxy S6 and couldn't be happier. Great phones, and boy have they made great strides in the photo area. These phones have 20 mg/pixel sensor, albeit small sensors, they take pretty impressive photos. I was never impressed with Apple products, don't get me wrong, they are good, just not as good as the asking price in my opinion. Something like GM's foray into the Saturn line of vehicles, great marketing, but really no better than the competition at the time and we owned a couple of them.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

I had a Lumia for a brief few months. It was the worst pos I ever owned. Windows on a phone is a nonsense. When it eventually suicided itself by jumping out of my shirt pocket, I actually cheered.

Android is the way to go.

I have 2 Samsung, latest is Galaxy 3 that will be involved in an accident when I know my company has iPhone 6s on the menue.
I have missed iPhone since my old iPhone 3 I gave away when I got a newer Samsung as company phone. I really hate Samsungs GUI that is not as intuitive as iPhone.

Wife got an iPhone 6/64GB from me a few months ago, she is very happy how it works. She has amazing photos on Facebook that people comment with "iPhone delivers". She asked about a cheaper Samsung but I told her that I'm ready to pay double as long as it is not a Samsung

My Samsung Galaxy 3 telephone itself is an app rattling around in the phone. It happens that I have to find it when I need to hang up.... Never in an iPhone.... Less amount of garbage installed as default in iPhone.... I miss the default wheather app that iPhone has, simple and always working fine.

I guees that there are different people, Samsung people or iPhone. I can thank Samsung for a very good TV, LG since I'll never by a Samsung product after my experiences with 2 Samsung phones and horrible interface.

This is MY personal experiences and thoughts. I know that many loves their Samsungs.

You guys are going to hate me for this but I'm still using an old Casio Gz'one, I bought it years ago because I wanted a phone that could take a beating and this one sure has seen it's share of abuse since I've owned it. It does everything I want it too except it is a pain to text with like for instance pressing the #7 key 4 times to get to the letter S. I'll eventually get a smart phone some day but not until this Casio curls up and dies and who knows when that will be, it's still using it's original battery.

You aren't trying to stay away from China made phones, are you?  ;)

I wish, but unfortunately there is no other option as China dominates the electronics manufacturing.  My preference is to buy from a 1st world country as they have protections for people and the environment.  Also, I would much rather buy custom parts from people here that I know, like, and trust.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program.  The camera, or ability to remote control a DSLR is important as I want to write an app that will snap pictures, and upload to shopify or other markets.

If you are also considering "app development" as a critical decider, then there is only Second Best to iOS, Chewy.

App development is an important factor as I like this model for software development.  Apps solve well defined problem in a way that bloated software packages can't.  About 10 years ago there was no well defined standard for web services, and now JSON and REST have emerged as the clear champions.  This maturity in technology allows developers to have access to amazing platforms without first having to create the platform.

Shopify is one example of a company that did everything right in terms of a webstore.  They have a core offering, but through JSON and REST that core platform can be extended to meet a variety of needs.  With a press of a button I can now have my posting displayed on any number of platforms  Ebay, Amazon, Shopify etc...  I can also make it easy to transfer inventory from one marketplace to another via button press.

Sot that is the reason for this post.  A phone with a good camera or ability to control a DSLR so I can write said app.

Want to get a phone this week as to take advantage of Black Friday deals.  Walmart looks to have some deals on phones.

If you're a first time smart phone user I would suggest an iPhone.. I've watched several older people with no smart phone experience try to get used to both iPhone and Android and it seemed Apple was easier for them to use.. I've had both and prefer the iPhone but sometimes miss some android features.. I also replace screens for friends some and an iPhone is WAY easier and cheaper to find replacement screens for, and easier to replace.
I have no idea of your age so no offense it's just what I've observed..

Thanks bamajoe,

Ease of use is definitely a consideration as I don't really want to spend too much time figuring it out which is strange considering I want to write a photo uploading app.  I like it when the hardware just works, and apple seems to do that well.

The main driver is to be able to upload product photos with a brief text description to a database and then sort them out latter to post on other sites.

Does anyone have experience with the Samsung Galaxy Camera 2?  It has Android, Wifi and is a camera.  Be interested to know if anyone has an Android camera with Wifi and what they think of it.

So I went to Walmart.com and ordered a Samsung Galaxy S3 for $107 delivered normally $349 due to holiday savings.  I just could not see paying more for the extra few 4,5, or 6 models galaxy or iphone with the exception of the iphone 5 $300 sale price.  I decided against the iphone 5 as it looked a little small.

I have good eyes, but don't see the point in struggling.  Also seems like most everyone here is running Android.  If I want to do IOS programming I will do that on a mac or hackintosh.

I am going to use the $400 savings from 6 models to try to put together budget video rig.

No matter the phone.  Protect your investment
Two necessary (cheap) accessories.
Dual density case
http://www.amazon.com/Tekcoo-Absorbing-Plastic-Defender-Carriers/dp/B013473PQQ/ref=sr_1_30?ie=UTF8&qid=1448472381&sr=8-30&keywords=samsung+galaxy+s+III+case+dual
Ballistic glass screen protector
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-Screen-Protector-Installation/dp/B00KEXV03O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1448472047&sr=8-1&keywords=samsung+galaxy+s3+ballistic+glass

My son has dropped his S4 a dozen times, in his pocket and fallen while skateboarding, stuffed in in the bottom of his backpack, etc.
I've had to replace the ballistic glass twice.  Cheap, compared to a new phone/screen.
