CB350F Tail Light Options Using Original Fender Holes
« on: November 22, 2015, 11:37:10 PM »
Although I do like the Lucas Style tail light I'm not so sure I want to drill a perfectly good fender in order to use it. I know, I can purchase another fender and keep my original one but I'm in Australia and the shipping is often 3 times the price of the fender itself and good ones are not cheap either.

So, what other options are there for a more proportional tail light for a CB350F that uses the standard holes? It doesn't need to use the lower holes, just the top ones.

The other option is to make a custom bracket but I'm trying to avoid this if at all possible.

If all else fails, I'll get the drill out...

I used this on a 500/4 and 750:

He used to sell it as a CB kit/set up with a 33 style lamp. Now he sells the bracket and light separate. All of his lights fit the bracket as well as Biltwell tail lights. It fits mounting holes on CB fenders - at least it did on my 500 and 750. Look at the third picture in the link for CB reference. All hardware is included.

Thanks Chachi. They look great and the license plate light is a neat bonus.

It is a nice product - the bracket - and comes with all hardware needed to mount right up. No mods and it's a quick swap. There are two plastic spacers to set the bracket off the fender a little. The light is nice as well. I'm using a LED bulb. It's a small light, so it's not the brightest. But it is a glass lens with cork seal, so it's kinda nice. His bracket is compatible with all Biltwell lights too. I believe the OC light mount is 1.75". I've used it on two bikes and have not found any other product that is a no-mod small tail light swap. No re-drilling, etc. so you can swap back to stock. I am getting ready to swap to a different rear set up - found a guy who makes a no-mod rear fender eliminator. So I'm going to try that plus a LED lucas light. I don't like to permanently mod anything, which can be challenging. But it allows me to swap back to stock if I want or for a future owner.

Same here Chachi, I prefer to leave original items unmolested if possible.

That sounds interesting. Do you have any more information to share? Photos, contact etc?

He sells on eBay and direct and has posted here before too:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rear-fender-eliminator-for-Honda-CB750-and-CB550-/201376469343

I think he has only done them for 550s and 750s. Or maybe the same unit works in both. But it is plug and play and no permanent mods are needed. I think another member here has used it and said it was a good product. I just ordered mine.

They look perfect! Many thanks. I'll get in touch with him and if that fails I'll give it a go myself.

His CB eliminators are ABS plastic. I think he makes some steel units for Guzzis or something else. And I think it comes pre-drilled with two mounting holes for tail lights with OC measurement of 3.25". He suggests a Lucas light no wider than 4.5" to pair with it. There are some Lucas lights that Dime City sells with the same mounting spec. I went with a LED Lucas by Motorcycle Mods. It has separate LEDs clusters for plate illumination (white) and tail light (red), which was another detail I wanted for a LED version. But since it's plastic, you could drill whatever spec mounting holes you want for whatever tail light you want. Although I do think that Lucas looks/fits best. Joker Machine has a nice one too, but it's expensive. Plenty of cheap ones out there. Motone has a LED Lucas but not a separate circuit of LEDs for plate illumination. I'll try to post a pic here once I get everything installed if it would help.
