POPPING ON DECELERATION (EXHAUST CRUSH GRASKETS / IDLE SCREW)
« on: November 26, 2015, 11:46:07 PM »
Running a CB550F with pods, ported, and 4-1 pipe. Popping on deceleration and i have already read some of the related posts concerning this which suggest leaning out the a/f screw of checking for exhaust leaks

1. Bike was putting out 12.7 with an A/F ratio meter at idle with over 2-2.5 turns out on air/fuel adjustment screw and 35 slow jets (really strange i realize but the guarantee the carbs are really clean) and she purrs quite nicely. Further leaning out wouldnt intuitively seem to be the solution. Anyone experience this situation??

2. Only pulled the pipe off twice. Do you guys change the copper crush gaskets every time you pull the pipes??

Seems too far leaned out to me. The CB500 and CB550 must have a rich idle (K3 excepted) to facilitate good throttle response accelerating. Don't be tempted to tune the airscrews for the highest rpm at idle. You'll have an engine that purs like a kitten but... you'll have a rotten acceleration.

Yes, I do, mandatory. All the above can well be the cause of what you describe. You have checked the ignition haven't you, condensors included?
