Well, i wasn't supposed to put my little project online, but i guess i could use some expert opinions or past experiences while building it.
To introduce myself at first, I'm Kevin, living in the Netherlands and currently rebuilding a CB550K3 from '78. The reason for rebuilding it? Well on my way to Switzerland we noticed a weird rattling noice, adjusted the valves and cam chain tensioner but nothing helped. When i opened the top, tadaa...
And the cam....
So you now know me, my bike (ehh) and the reason for rebuilding it.
A shot to explain the title..
I'll try to update my first post with pictures on my progress and new parts and stuff. But first i have a question (you guessed right).
I'm ordering parts, like bottem end bearings and stuff. Now my "cb bible" says that if i changeout one bottom bearing, either crankshaft or bottom end, i should replace all of them, is this tru?
As you can see in the picture below, it does show some grooves, but you can't "feel" them with your fingernail. This one is the worst, the others look a lot better. I ordered some plastigauge to verify the wear but in the meantime, who's replacing all of them?
Second, how does the crankcase journal coding system work? I should match the number from the crankcase on the actual crank and find out how to match the correct main journals?
I'll find some original pictures of the bike tonight, should be working in my little shed right now...
Thanks for the help!
