That's a very tasteful homage to the R90S.  It's a shame that BMW cheaped out on the front suspension of the R Nine T (no adjustability).  It really is a pretty bike with the rest of it having very high end finishes.

Only problem with the new R Nine T (well, one of them) is the bike sits pretty small. The ergonomics is suited for someone about 5'9" and not much bigger in my opinion. Pretty cramped riding position, even the new R12RS is "smallish" feeling compared to the K13s.

I love the look of this bike, maybe forego the orange frame and use black.

If you want a "big" BMW Cal, try the GS series. I can just swing my leg over the seat and I'm 6'4", and when I put it on it's centre stand to fill it at the gas station I had to stand on my tippy toes to see inside the tank!

Once you're on the bike and moving it's just like riding a massive dift bike, but with the boxer configuration the weight is spread quite low, so there's no top heavy feeling like on lesser adventure bikes, and of course, the big GS bikes handle and stop like "proper" road bikes.

I like it so much that I'll sell my Honda XR500R and my BMW K100RS SE now, as they're no longer required......

I know the GS well, Terry. Just not a fan of the riding style (I'm a sport tourer at heart  ). My comments were only meant as input on the R Nine T not a "I can't find a BMW I like...".

I'm so in love with the K13s I can't stand myself. I understand from the local dealer that '16 will be the final model year for it though. I don't know if they'll replace it with an S1000GT or something? The F800GT is too small for me, and I don't want the K16.

What I really want is to be young again ripping around on my K75s

Ha ha, I understand what you're saying Cal, I loved my K100RS (I've also owned a K100RT and K1100LT, I never liked the K75 though, I just couldn't see the point?) until I bought my Yamaha FJ1200, which frankly shat on all of them, in every way. Yes I'm a BMW fan, so that's not all that easy to say, but regardless, the Yam is just a better bike.

Anyhoo, after work tonight I took the big black BM for a ripping ride from Canberra to Cooma and back, (150 mile round trip) the weather in Canberra was warm and sunny, and as I didn't initially intend to ride too far I only threw on my mesh Triumph jacket, which is great on hot days as it allows the air to pass thru, but not so nice in cooler weather.

As Cooma is up in the hills (it actually snows there in winter occasionally) it got colder and colder as I got closer, to the point where when I arrived I got off the bike, drank a cup of coffee, got back on the bike and roared home again, only stopping for a piss on the way home. Luckily enough it was still daylight when I got back, and was way warmer than Cooma, so I had a chance to thaw as I drew nearer to Canberra.

Once again, the big black beast ran magnificently, and I saw the ton on several occasions as I flew past cars and trucks dawdling through the sweeping bends. Geez, I might have to do it again tomorrow! Cheers, Terry.

No worries mate, and if anyone would like to build a similar bike to the one posted at the start of this thread, the early R1100S' are going pretty cheaply now, and are fantastic "Sport Tourers" too. I might have to pick one up for a project.....

Ha ha, I'm not allowed to sell it Frank, my oldest boy has decided that he's going to inherit it, so part of reasoning for buying the Harley Sportster is so I've got something to leave his brother.......

Well the Rocket III's been in the family since it was new in 2007. My older brother bought it for his 50th birthday. He hadn't owned a bike since his BMW R75 in the 1970's, so I'm still not sure why he bought the Triumph, with around 3 times the BHP and torque of his old BM, which he discovered on the way home, and that gave him pause not to ride it after that first ride.

Fast forward 2 years, in September of 2009 his life wasn't going too well, so he offered me the Triumph for half what he paid for it...... I certainly wasn't in the market for another bike, but being he's my brother I had to help him out, so I bought it. I flew to Whyalla, and rode the big beast the 800 miles home that weekend. (Great ride!)

It let me down a couple of years later when the output shaft bearing collapsed at the Phillip Island race circuit but I was able to limp it the 100 miles back home (in fact, over walking speed it was quiet) but then Triumph screwed me out of another $2K to fix it, even though it was a production fault (not a design fault) that caused the problem. Oh well, lesson learned.

Since then I haven't riddden it much, it's only got 8000 miles on the odo (but that's twice as many as my 1994 1200 Sporty) but I like riding my other 7 bikes too. So to answer your question, if it wasn't for the family tie, would I have bought a Rocket III? Nope, probably not. Do I like it? Yeah, it's the fastest accelerating bike I've ever owned, and I love riding it fast, even if my $2K Yamaha FJ1200 is almost as quick, and probably much safer to ride at those speeds. Still, it's an interesting bike. Cheers, Terry.
