SOHC/1.net. My cl100 project

 I got this cl 100 with a fried rectifier, 12V head and taillights and all the little gauge bulbs burned out. I decided to attempt the proverbial CB350/360 stator swap alluded to in the yahoo cb100/125 group and the Do the Ton site. I'm learning as I go and figured it should be documented somewhere for posterity.

 It does run, if only for short distances so I'm relatively sure it's a working machine once the electrics are sorted. Too bad it's kick only I have a nice Honda V twin gel battery that would fit where the air/toolboxes are. 
 I'll try to get some pictures of the stators and the fit up tomorrow. I may need some coaching on the wiring, The 360 stator should wire back in just like the 100 stator, the difference will be in the rectifier and regulator. The 100 has no real regulator and with the new found juice it will need one.

I'm thinking of using a solid state rec/reg for a Kohler engine. The 100 and 360 are both single phase charging and use similar wiring schemes.

can you not use a volt regulator from a chinese made bike.??.i have them on all my cross and atv..gives 12 volt and no problems..by a singel fase system..and kosts nothing.. it use both ends of the power coil..so it often needs the frame konneltion on the coil to be soldet to a vire and put aut to the regulator to get full power to use the 4 dubbel diode to get full sinus..its 4 vire and a frame konnektion...

like to use it on my Yamaha dt 125 mk1 1982.
..but faund, it vas a 6 volt system.
.so have to thange the all elektric, to get 12 volt.
.but think it vill Work if the power coil have both end vinding aut..(no erth ground/ konnektion)..to get 2  vires to the diode /regulator box. the 4 diode can not vork if the coil are groundet .

.but somone must have done it...but how to find it....Google??

That one says for 11 coil stators, mine are 6 coil.

look like the 11 coil are 3 fase.( 3 yellow vires aut).

 ..i thek the one i have..think i have both variants..my 110 cc atv  use singel fase 6/7 coil

here is the stator, i use in my china bikes..it have a ekstra coil for ignision..but the viring is standart..

think this regulator can be used on your Honda...
..there is a variant vho is more powerfull..but it kosts 3 times this small type

 I chose the middle ground and bought a reg/rec for $40 that's for a 360. I used a hollow needle for a meat injector to feed the sheathed wires through the rubber engine seal and connected the 360 stator wires to the 100 honda plug. I made a connector to plug in the neutral wire since there was none and shrink tubed the harness together.
 This leaves the 4 wires that formerly went to the 100 rectifier to mate to the new part when it arrives.

I borrowed the needle idea from another post on these swaps, it worked great. Kudos to whoever thought of it.

 I think it was buried in the yahoo nightmare. I used the turkey injector needle to slide through the rubber engine seal, then inserted the wire into the hole in the needle with a little shrink tubing and lube and pulled the wire back through. The wire goes easy, it's the sheath that's difficult to feed through. Pics to come.

 The hole in the needle was on the side so I filed it a little toward the end then it worked well.



 You can see the wires soldered to the cl 100 plug and shrink tubed .

Yes, it has a permanent magnet rotor. I have no idea if a 350/360 rotor would fit. I suspect not but i'm betting there will be some increase in charging power anyway.

 The rec/reg came today, the plugs are male on both ends but I have a correct 4 pin plug left from my 750 rewire, it even has the lock tab, I'm hoping to push out the terminals and slip them into the fresh end on the bike side and cut, crimp and solder the female end onto the rectifier wires. I searched for a tiny 12V battery to replace the 6V but the smallest one they had is too big, I may need to modify the mounting bracket.

woo hoo!! The wiring is all connected, just some tidying up to do. I energized it and the smoke is still inside of it. The turn signals come on but don't blink yet, The taillight is dim even on 12 Volts, both brake lights work so it's looking good. I'll try the 6Volt coil to see if it gets hot, I have some resistors from a 6 volt car project 43 years ago. No chit, I still have them.
 I got a heads up from a buddy on, "do the ton' there was a NOS CL100 left sidecover emblem on ebay. $40 but I bought it, when am I going to find another one? 

 I'll have a right cb125 repop sidecover left over and two cb125 sidecover emblems left over, assuming the left one comes off intact. The sidecover is candy red. The repop seat is nicer than what came on it, it has chrome trim rather than the buttons down the side. it looks like one for a bigger bike but fits nice.
