My "new" CM450 thoughts/opinions?
« on: November 30, 2015, 12:02:10 PM »
Hey everyone first post here, but I've just purchased a CM450 that has been chopped a bit, in the hopes of "cafeing" it out a bit, I've included a pic, think theres hope?

it runs very well, electric start doesn't work, but it starts on the 3rd 4th kick. I'll get the carbs cleaned this spring

would love to hear any design ideas, anyone may have

I have a cm400a. Honestly, its a lot of fun to ride, however it lacks top speed if youre riding with friends that cruise at 80mph, youre out of luck. I bought a smaller front sprocket to try to get a little more power/revs up top but havent tried it yet.

The CM is a great platform. I've done a couple of builds for folks using them. They are a fun ride around town. I haven't tried to cafe one yet. That sounds like a good challenge. Enjoy!

Cheaper, easier and better looking result to start with a 500/550. The CM engine is anemic, and that particular example, after having been modified, will be more problematic than productive.

I grew up in Springfield and am in the vicinity regularly. In fact, heading up there tomorrow. We will have to cross paths sometime-

I have straight duals on mine with little 1.5" x 4" metal baffles bolted into the ends of the pipes and its loud but sounds great. Looks like you made similar pipes on that purple one.

Yeah, it's what the owner wanted. That one is unbaffled because she wanted it louder. I refer to that bike as the VFW bike since the exhaust looks like flag holders to me.
